“Don’t what? Ask you how it felt to fuck a stranger within five minutes of meeting him?”

Jessa bows her head. “It’s not like that.”

“Well, he painted an obvious picture of just how it happened,” I grit.

“Just like Anastasia painted a very clear picture of all the fun you both have and how she can’t wait to get her hands on you,” Jessa throws back in haste. “And you didn’t dispute it. I mean, for all I know, you’re fucking her now.”

“And so what if I am? What difference would it make to you?”

“I care!” Her eyes are wild, the hazel almost burning with fire. “God, Andy. You have no idea what it’s like to be in my shoes. To battle with mistakes but count the blessings of my son at the same time. Then, you walk back into my life and…”

“And what?”

Jessa lowers her gaze to the floor, her chest rising as she releases a breath. “I won’t cheat on my husband.”

The words are like dynamite, but they also don’t make sense.

“I’ve never asked you to—”

“No, Andy,” she breathes, shaking her head while clutching her stomach. “I think about you all the time. I’ve imagined over and over again what it would’ve been like to have this life with you.”

“Jessa…” I murmur, struggling to process this.

“But none of it matters. I’m married, and I won’t cheat on Benedict despite how I feel about you.”

Between the silence, I know we don’t have long until Benedict questions where Jessa is and possibly punches me in the face. I’m prepared for it, confident I can hold my own against the bastard. Aside from my height, I’m much more built than him and have been practicing my swings against the punching bag at the gym.

Still, I don’t want to put Jessa in that position. Not when Bentley is at stake.

“We need to get out of here,” I warn her.

Jessa nods, but as she turns her back to exit the restroom, I grab her arm, turning her back around to face me.

“What Ava said wasn’t true. I wasn’t in love with you…”

“Oh,” Jessa exhales, her lips pressing into a tight grimace. “But you said on the phone…”

I reach out and lift her chin with my finger. Our gaze locks, and I decide once and for all to seize the moment, admit the truth because I’m sick of running away and living in misery.

“I’m still in love with you,” I begin, then stall as my breath hitches. “It’s always been and will only ever be you, Jessa.”

Jessa

After my admission to Andy in the men’s restroom, dinner took an unexpected turn.

We returned to the table separately, and while we were gone, both Anastasia and Benedict had drunk the remaining bottles of wine.

Before I took a seat, I paused to observe their interaction. Anastasia was showing Benedict something on her phone, and whatever it was, it caught his attention. She placed her hand on his arm. Then his eyes fell to her chest. I saw the lick on his lips and the way she flicked her hair back to better expose her chest.

I waited for the jealousy to tear through me, but it never came.

The night ended with Anastasia lacing her arm into Andy’s, begging him to join her at some club. Our goodbyes were amicable, yet the stolen glance before I stepped into the car with my drunk husband spoke a thousand words.

The cards have been laid out, and Andy made sure to tell me exactly how he felt about me.

Just as I made it clear of my intent to remain faithful to my husband.
