Dad nods, pursing his lips to hide his smile. “It was quite some show last night.”

“I’m sorry I missed it,” I apologize but shift my gaze onto my coffee, taking a long-winded sip.

Across the countertop, Dad slides a full plate of food in front of me. I thank him, then scarf it down as Mom watches me with disgust.

“How can you eat all that?”

“Frankly, I’m still hungry.”

“But look at you? Where does it even go?”

“I burn it off, Mother, like most boys.”

The moment it leaves my mouth, Dad glances over with an amused expression. He doesn’t say anything, but I assume he knows about last night. Quite possibly, it’s why they didn’t come home until the early hours of the morning.

“So, about last night…” Mom begins. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

My phone vibrates in front of me, and when I see Jessa’s name, a smile spreads across my face.

Jessa:I just walked over Rocky’s half-naked body on the living room floor. When I say half-naked, he’s only wearing boxers, and they have pictures of Nikki’s face all over them.

I hold back my laughter, typing a response and hitting send.

Andy:Take a photo. It might come in handy one day.

Jessa:Already did. I’m no amateur here.

Andy:Mom is completely hungover. Apparently, Lex was just as bad.

Jessa:Oh yes, they were. I’ll tell you about it later. So, are you free for dinner tonight? I’m spending the day with Mom. Then she’s offered to take Bentley so I can go do adult things.

Andy:What kind of adult things?

Jessa:Eat tacos…

Before I type a response, I glance up, then sideways, to see Mom watching me.

“You’re awfully chirpy for someone who appeared agitated last night when you left the party.”

“I just needed sleep.”

“Sleep?” She questions with her brow raised. “Did you manage to get some? Sleep, I mean.”

My gaze falls back onto the screen as I start to type a message back.

“Yes, Mom, I got some sleep. The best I’ve had in a while.”

Across the counter, a smirk spreads across Dad’s face as he talks to me with his eyes. Mom looks at him, then to me, letting out a huff.

“Okay, fine. Secret men’s business, I get it. So, basically, you’re getting laid, which explains why you ate three plates of food. Also, why you’re smiling like a lovesick fool.”

“Lovesick fool?”

“Adriana, leave Andy alone, and let him enjoy his breakfast.” Dad then walks around the countertop, kisses Mom on the head, and grabs her hand. “You need to go back to bed. You don’t handle hangovers well.”

“Like you do?”
