Turning my back, I mumble a good night until she calls, “Andy.”

Closing my eyes momentarily, I clench my jaw then turn around, willing to listen to her sad and pathetic apology.

“What the hell are you doing?”

“I’m going to bed,” I drag. “I’m beat.”

“I mean…” she clears her throat though her eyes remain tight, “… with Jessa.”

“Luna, now isn’t the time to—”

“To ask you why you’re having an affair with a married woman?”

The manic pacing of my heartbeat causes me to clench my fists into balls. “Jessa and I are none of your business.”

“None of my business?” Luna questions with a sinister laugh, the same time Mom and Dad walk into the kitchen. “You’re ruining a marriage! And the only person who’ll truly get hurt in the end is you.”

My blood pumps furiously as I gaze at my sister with contempt. She has no idea what it has been like for us, nor what Jessa has been through. Typical, she has formed an opinion based on her limited experience with relationships.

“You have no goddamn idea what you’re talking about, Luna.”

“I know when you marry someone, you vow to be faithful. What the two of you are doing is wrong,” she responds hastily.

“Don’t you dare tell me what’s wrong!” I point my finger at her, my lips pulled back, baring my teeth. “What gives you the right to judge what we do, huh?”

Dad moves closer to me, trying to calm me down.

“Because you’re breaking up a family!”

“I’m not breaking up a goddamn family. It was fucking broken before I even got there.”

“So that makes the sneaking around okay? Don’t you think her husband will find out? How fair is this to him?”

The pounding in my ears is enough for me to walk away from this conversation.

“I don’t need this…” I mumble.

“Of course not. You don’t need a reality check, right? I bet you’re going to sneak to Jessa’s place now and fuck her pretty little brains out like she’s not married to someone else. Jessa won’t leave Benedict, and in the end, you’ll be the one hurting the most.”

“Luna,” Dad warns. “Enough.”

“No, Dad. What Andy is doing is wrong! What kind of person has an affair with a married woman? As for Jessa, what kind of woman cheats on her husband? Talk about being a selfish bit—”

A guttural roar escapes my throat.“Don’t you dare even think of calling her that.”

“Well, neither of you care. And you know what? You’ll both get caught, and the one to suffer the most will be Bentley. What kind of a mother would do that to her child?”

The adrenaline rushes through my body, ready to lash out at my sister for being such a fucking bitch.

“Luna!” Mom snaps with furious eyes. “Apologize to your brother for this uncalled-for behavior. I didn’t raise you to be so judgmental and trash another woman for her private decisions. Especially when that woman is your close friend.”

“Was, Mom,” Luna resigns. “Not anymore.”

Luna walks out of the room without another word, leaving the three of us behind. With my head bowed, the anger refuses to subside, leaving me with a dry throat from my rushed breathing.

“Andy,” Mom calls softly, placing her hand on my arm. “If there’s truth to what Luna said about you and Jessa, you need to be careful. A lot is at stake.”

“You don’t think I know that, Mom?”
