A growl escapes Cruz’s lips. Why he’s offended is beyond me. He started the smack talk but can’t handle the comebacks.

“You know,” I begin with once the wine relaxes my body, “Sibling rivalry is usually because you’re fighting for your parents’ attention.”

Cruz leans back in his chair with confidence. “Everyone knows they love me more. I’m the miracle kid after years of trying.”

Masen rests his elbows on the table, cocking his head with a sly grin. “Is that so?”

“Well, I wasn’t a result of two co-workers screwing each other on a one-night stand in some club.”

I clear my throat. “Actually, it was an alleyway.”

The two of them shift their gazes onto me.

“What? I overhead it, I think, from Ava,” I mumble, then my eyes widen on their own accord. “And something about your dad being pierced.”

Oh, for the love of God, what the hell is wrong with me.

“Addy,” Cruz moans, covering his face with his hands. “My dad’s dick shouldn’t be the topic of the Edwards girls.”

“It’s not topic. It was raised maybe like once.”

Just as I’m about to defend myself further, Cruz’s phone buzzes with a text which distracts him.

“I’ll be back,” he mutters as I turn to him in a panic.

“What, why?”

“Just stuff I need to sort out.”

My words are trapped and too late as he exits the room as well. Slowly, my gaze shifts onto Masen since it’s just the two of us.

“So, sorry about the comment, you know… about your dad.”

Masen watches me with an unrelenting stare. “It appears you’re fixated with such novelty.”

I raise my eyebrows with a hard smile. “Such novelties don’t interest me.”

“How would you know unless you’ve tried?”

“Tried what exactly?”

He leans forward, his gaze unwavering. “Being intimate with a man who can pleasure you in the way you’ve never experienced before.”

My eyes unwillingly explore his as I begin to grow hot and feverish. Then, with my thighs pressed together beneath the table, I keep them closed to distract myself from this unknown feeling.

“The world doesn’t revolve around sex,” I blurt out. “Believe it or not, there are more important and worthy matters which need attention.”

Masen draws back, leaning against his chair with a smug expression. His arrogance gets on my nerves.

“If you say so, Miss Edwards.”

“I mean, maybe in your world because you’re such a player, that’s all you think about. Some of us need more in life.”

He juts his chin with a sneer. “I can guarantee, Addison, if a man satisfied you, this conversation would never have taken place.”

My arms fold beneath my chest. “You’re such an arrogant—”

“Jerk?” he cuts me off with a deep stare. “That’s how the hate fuck always begins…”
