My finger traces his shoulder blade as questions plague me.

“So, do you spend much time with my dad?”

He pulls himself out of me, collapsing next to where I lay. “Why do you ask?”

“Just curious.”

“I do, actually. He’s a stakeholder in Lantern Publishing. A shark in the boardroom if you cross him, and also the one who tames my dad when the men go out.”

This time, it’s my turn to laugh. “Your dad needs taming? No …”

“Haden Cooper needs a leash on him.”

“So, what you’re really trying to tell me is that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree?”

Masen digs his finger into my ribs, making me jump from being ticklish.

“Despite what my mother likes to tell people, I’d like to think I’m the apple who found his own feet and works hard without needing his parents to push him.”

I nod in agreeance. “From what I overhear, you’re a workaholic—”

The sound of his phone pings, stopping me mid-sentence. He drags his phone to look at a text, then laughs.

In annoyance, I roll my eyes. “Another booty text?”

“Your sister.”

My eyes widen in shock. “My sister sends you booty texts?”

Masen frowns. “God, no. Ava is like an annoying sister who has your back, but at the same time, you’re adamant she was put on this Earth to push every button you have. We’re still arguing over sandwich etiquette.”

The tension in my shoulders releases, knowing it’s just Ava being Ava.

“If you really want to annoy her, tell her in Denmark, the sandwiches are open-faced with roast beef and fish fillets.”

“She has an aversion to mixed meats.” He chuckles.

“Exactly … target her triggers.”

As he begins to type, I snatch the phone off him and type my own message.

Masen:In Denmark, they serve open-faced sandwiches with roast beef and fish fillets. It’s not uncommon to throw in some egg. Sounds tasty, right?

The bubble appears, then the phone beeps.

Ava:WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU? There is no place in the world for roast beef and fish together. I think I just threw up in my mouth. I’m not talking to you for the rest of the day. Goodbye.

We both laugh at Ava’s response. Her reactions are priceless if you know how to push her buttons.

“And that’s how you get my sister to stop annoying you,” I conclude.

“It was so easy, too. I will learn a lot from you.”

“Hmm,” I murmur while shifting to climb on top of him. The sheet falls off, exposing my breasts. “I’m wondering what else I can teach you.”

Masen places his hands on my hips, grinding against me until he’s hard again. This man will be the death of me.

“We’ve got all night.”
