“Yes,” I simply answer, distracted by her lips. “After dinner.”

“We should probably go separately, if that’s okay?”

“Fine by me.”

She reaches out for the doorknob then opens the door. “I’ll see you later.”

Before she closes it, I call her name prompting her to turn around. With a longing stare, she waits for me to speak.

“Addison, you look beautiful tonight.”

She nods, then follows with a grin. “You look pretty damn handsome yourself, Mr. Cooper.”

“And one more thing …”

I take a step toward her, cupping her chin to plant a kiss on her lips. As we pull apart, she expels a soft moan.

“Just like in the book,” she whispers.

Then, she turns around toward the elevator, saying goodbye, just for now.

Catching up with the Edwards girls and their cousins is always chaotic. Throw Eric into the mix and it’s a circus.

There’s a lot of wine and cocktails for the girls—plus harder stuff for men who don’t drink candy-flavored shit.

The food keeps coming, as does the laughter. Eric is non-stop, as usual, but everyone is enjoying themselves. I try my best to involve myself yet sitting across from Addison makes it difficult. Aside from her teasing me in the silk dress she wears, Ava is watching the both of us making it challenging to act normal.

However, this night is all about Jessa. We toast to her and her success, especially since her book is making our company a hell of a lot of money.

I’m happy for Andy and Jessa, given how hard it was for them to get together finally. According to Andy, Jessa’s split from her husband wasn’t easy since she has a son.

Nash, Addison’s cousin, is sitting beside me. We talk for most of the night about sport, and his trip to Miami. The guy likes his women, not shy to admit his conquests. He reminds me of a young Rocky.

There are a few stolen glances throughout the night with Addison, but I catch Jessa watching us during one time. It’s not long before this all comes out, and everyone will know.

But for now, Addison and I need privacy to work out what is going on between us since I’m struggling to understand myself.

Andy leans in, turning his head to keep his voice low. “We’re going to head out now.”

I pat his shoulder. “Good luck, brother.”

As they say goodbye to everyone, the rest of us remain behind until Nash calls boredom.

“Ava, can we get into your dad’s club?”

“Which one?” she questions, resting her head on Austin.

“After Dark.”

“We can make it happen,” Will says, prompting us to all stand up.

I’d been to Lex’s club before, knowing it’s just two blocks over. Nash is walking along with me as Addison is holding hands with Eric. The guy hasn’t stopped talking all night long.

“I was once involved in a certain situation at the After Dark.”

“If this is sexual, I don’t want to know,” Addison complains.
