“Thank you,” she says. “I appreciate you coming over here and saying that.”
“Just remember to hire me as your stuntwoman when you make it big,” I tease her, which makes her smile widen. Just then, the overhead lights start dimming, signaling that the movie is about to begin. I wish Becca good luck and excuse myself.
“What was that?” Dean whispers to me when I take my seat beside him.
“Just giving her a little encouragement,” I say. “She looked like she needed it.”
“Huh,” he says. A glint appears in his eyes. “You know what?”
“What?”
“You’re going to make one hell of a mother, Zoey.”
“Why? Because I’m dispensing advice to up-and-coming actresses?”
“No,” he says, then leans in to kiss me. “Because you have a heart of gold.”
Our lips touch right as the movie begins, and there’s only one word that I can use to describe this moment. It’s a simple one, but it’s also one that cuts through all of the noise and paints the scene in the most perfect of ways.
The word is happiness.
