I’ll do whatever it takes.

“Oh my God, no, don’t do that,” she gasps.

My heart squeezes tight. “No?”

“No, I meant don’t give up singing. Yes, I’ll marry you!” She drops to her knees too. “I would be so happy to marry you, Evan.Sohappy.” She flings her arms around my neck and kisses me tenderly.

We keep kissing as the band plays behind us. When we finally come up for air, I grin at her and say, “Want to put on the ring?”

“You bet your ass I do.” Her eyes twinkle as I slide the brilliant diamond onto her finger.

“Oh, Evan,” she breathes. “It’s gorgeous. It’s perfect.Allof this is perfect.”

“There’s one more thing,” I say. I point behind us and Rose turns to look just as the applause breaks out. There, standing at the back of the restaurant, are her parents, my parents, Courtney, Leon, and several of our friends.

With a joyful yelp, she grabs my hand and we rush over to them. Our friends and family greet us with loving hugs and well-wishes. When she reaches Courtney, the two of them share a teary hug, and then I give my sister a hug, too.

As everyone starts to make their way across the patio to grab seats and enjoy the luau, I slip my hand into Rose’s and take a step to follow them. But she tugs on my hand and pulls me back. I turn toward her and grin, enveloping her in my arms. For a moment, it feels like just the two of us exist in the world.

“You’re such an incredible man, you know that?” she says. “I fall more and more in love with you every day.”

In a moment, I’ll tell her that I’m falling more deeply in love with her every day, too—and that I’m going to be in love with her for the rest of time.

But first I kiss her.

It feels like a million love songs all wrapped into one.
