“I believe I speak for every member of my club when I say we’ll help in any way we can.” Reaper reached over and patted her hand. “Any mistreatment of women is against our laws. It doesn’t surprise me that the Cutthroats have joined Diablos.” He stroked his beard. “The two always seemed destined to find each other.”

“How did you connect the motorcycle clubs?” Rubble asked. Her eyes slid to his cut. The sergeant at arms patch made sense. Given his build and countenance, the man could easily live up to his name and role.

“Chatter and photos got us to Colorado. The Cutthroat bikers weren’t as gabby as we hoped, but I overheard Pillar and a Diablos member discuss it the other night.” She searched for Kevlar’s gaze, but he resisted, focusing on his president’s face instead. It unnerved her the longer he remained stoic. In her mind, she imagined he’d be pissed when he found out the truth. Instead, he looked as if he expected this. Her gut rolled.Did he react the same way when I left? She still felt guilty about leaving him the way she did. It wasn’t her idea, but she also didn’t do everything within her power back then.

“The night you were attacked,” Rubble filled in.

Mandi gasped and turned toward her. “What?”

“You didn’t tell her?” This from Kevlar, who finally spoke up, anger lining his question.

“No.”

“What’s he talking about?” Mandi asked, pinching her arm.

Ignoring her, Nikita pushed on. “Pillar also mentioned they were holding a package in Snowshoe and if it was found, Macha would take the fall.”

This got every man’s attention. “What?” Rubble asked, his mismatched eyes taking on a harrowing gleam. “Where?”

She shrugged. “I don’t know. They didn’t say.”

“It’s all connected,” Reaper said. “You got too close and they made you.”

“We were there a whole two weeks.” Mandi snorted. “No way our covers were blown so easily.”

“Who’s your contact?” Reaper asked, bushing gray brows furrowed.

“Juliet. She’s one of the dolls.” Mandi looked between the three Macha members. “You don’t think she sold us out, do you?”

Rubble stood, phone to his ear. “Yes, I do.”

He walked out before Nikita could refute his words. She couldn’t be wrong. She’d vetted the woman herself.

“I don’t understand.” She looked to Reaper and the older man sighed.

“The dollhouse is filled with drug addicts, Nikita. We’ve helped a few over the years.” He paused and meshed his fingers together. “Juliet is one we couldn’t. She consistently went back to the Cutthroats despite our efforts.”

“So?”

“So, while she was under our care, she collected information about our club and passed it on to Pillar.” He paused and sighed. “The Cutthroats ended up severely maiming one of my best men five years ago.” A haunted look filled his eyes. “She isn’t to be trusted.”

“Dammit,” both she and Mandi said at the same time.

“Don’t blame yourselves.” Reaper stood. “You couldn’t have known. We kept it quiet.”

“But if you’d been upfront with us, we could’ve avoided this,” Kevlar said, voice strained. He also stood, his chair scraping on the floor. “And maybe we could’ve protected you.” He pointed to Mandi, but they all knew who he meant.

“Kevlar, these things happen. She’s here now and that’s all that matters.” Reaper patted his shoulder. “Mandi, come. I’ll introduce you to my old lady. Queenie will force-feed you something delicious. We’re preparing for a wedding, so there’s plenty of goodies.” Reaper walked to the door.

“I’ll catch up later,” Nikita said, eyes fixed on Kevlar’s. Once the door shut, she sat back and crossed her arms over her chest. “Could you be any more of an asshole?”

“Yeah, actually, Kita, I could.” He shook his head. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Why would I? We don’t know each other.”

“Ouch, but valid.” He wrapped his fingers around the back of the chair. “What happened?”

She rolled her eyes. “I just told you.”
