“Any of this feel odd to you?” Mandi asked, breaking apart one of the cinnamon twists and taking a bite.

“What do you mean?” She turned in the driver seat, brows furrowed.

“I don’t know the whole fast switch seems off.” She shrugged. “Maybe I’m being paranoid.”

Nikita glanced out the window. No signs of movement from Kevlar’s truck. Hell, she could barely see it. The only part showing was the chrome on the front. The rest of the truck was well-hidden behind a boulder.

She checked the time and frowned. It was past the time the two MCs should’ve traveled through the pass along with a semi. A chill traced down her spine despite the car’s warm interior.

Digging out her phone, she called Zane. When he didn’t answer, her stomach dropped. Agents always answered.Unless we’ve been compromised.

Turning up the heat, she sent a message to Kevlar.

Nikita: Anything over there?

Kevlar: None.

Tapping her knuckles on the bottom of the steering wheel, she tried Zane again.Shit, no answer.

“I think you’re right.” She met Mandi’s worried face. “They must’ve switched routes.”

Before she could call Kevlar to retreat, a bullet whizzed between them and hit the windshield. Glass shattered across the dash, and they hunkered down in their seats.

“Get the fuck out!” a voice yelled from outside.

Nikita glanced over the Mandi, who shook her head vehemently. Another spraying of bullets, this time from an automatic. Clenching her jaw, Nikita closed her eyes and sent every known prayer heavenward. She didn’t give a shit which god or goddess saved her ass, just that they didn’t die.

The peppering paused, but more echoed further down the road. “Damn, how’d they find us?”

“I’m not sure, but I need to warn the other team.”

She felt for her phone and realized it’d fallen through the tiny space between the seat and console. She struggled to reach it, fingertips grazing it only to push it deeper in the slot. The door handle jiggled, and she looked up in time to see a Diablos biker smash the window with the butt of his gun. Grabbing her sidearm, she fired off a round. It took him to the snowy ground, but where there was one, there were more. A slew of shots fired at them, whizzing by her ears and spraying the interior with glass confetti.

“Mandi, are you okay?”

Nikita snapped her eyes toward her partner and let out a frantic cry. Blood trickled down Mandi’s face, a bullet to the back of her head silencing her reply forever.

“No, no, no!” She automatically checked for a pulse even though she knew there wouldn’t be one. “Goddammit.”

Revenge cooled her blood and overtook her grief. She let off another round into an approaching Diablos, shifting the car into gear. There’d be time to mourn her partner later. Right now, she needed to make them pay.

“Do it and die.”

The icy voice, coupled with the barrel of a gun to her temple, paused her grand escape. She shifted back to Park and lifted her hands. He tore away her gun and tossed it in a snowbank.

“You don’t want to do this,” she warned, sliding her gaze to the man decked out in Cutthroat gear. It was Pillar. The club president himself.Holy shit.

He laughed and motioned for her to exit the vehicle. “Oh, but I do.”

Nikita stepped out of the sedan, eyes scanning the area. Gunshots bounced across the pass, manly shouts joining. Kevlar’s truck was still stationary. She walked toward Pillar, hands high. She caught a glimpse of a tall man in black clothes rushing toward their position, but additional Cutthroats cut off his advance.

“Look, if you let me go, I’m sure we can work something out.” She stopped beside the green Hummer with vanity plates. Without asking, she knew the vehicle belonged to Pillar. “My father is—”

“I know who your daddy is, Nikita.” Three more Cutthroats joined him. “And he’ll pay dearly for double-crossing me.”

“What are you talking about?”

He thrust the gun in her chest, beady eyes alight with revenge. “Muerte thinks he can take 60 percent of my haul? Well, he’s got another think coming. He’ll give it all back to me or lose you in the process.”
