“Sure. Vodka cranberry, please.”

If he could’ve snapped the cocktail into existence, he would’ve. But he couldn’t. He could barely make the mixed drink the proper way. “I’ll grab it for you.” He pointed to an open booth. “Be back in two shakes.”

Jupiter lifted her brows, and suddenly Rubble wanted to dig a hole and crawl into it and die. “Shit, that was lame.”

She placed a hand on his forearm, a cheerful grin on her face. “It was cute.” She bit her bottom lip. “You’re cute.”

Rubble didn’t know what to respond, so he didn’t. He hurried to the bar and wiped his forehead with his arm.

“Somebody hitting it off with a lady?” Brewer snagged a clean glass and filled it with beer, handing it off to a nymph.

“More like making an idiot out of myself.” He gripped the edge of the counter and groaned. This wasn’t normal for him. Even when he had been a horny kid, he didn’t say stupid shit.

“So not suave?”

He gave Brewer a pointed look. “Not even close.”

Brewer didn’t try to hide his cocky grin. “What’ll it be?”

After retrieving the drinks, Rubble made his way to the booth where Jupiter sat. Unfortunately for him, it was directly next to Macha’s, and Nikita was leaning over the booth chatting with her.

Jupiter showered him with a grateful smile and took a sip of the drink. He wasn’t much of a vodka fan, so he sat nursing his ice water while she and Nikita talked. It shouldn’t have perturbed him that Nikita had her attention. Jupiter wasn’t his. She wasn’t anyone’s. Despite that, Rubble wanted her all to himself. He craved her uninterrupted attention both clothed and otherwise.

He gritted his teeth, willing those thoughts to disappear. He had to go slow with her. She’d been through shit thanks to a man, and he wasn’t about to repeat that. He’d get through the night. He’d watch her supple hips sway to music and not drink a damn drop of liquor. He’d listen to her light laugh, memorize the lithe way her legs moved. He’d make polite conversation. Then he’d grab the first nymph and fuck her until Jupiter’s innocently seductive lips were a mere memory.

Only, he couldn’t do any of that. Not when one touch from her silenced those thoughts.

Jupiter smiled at him from across the table. He took a large gulp of water. It was going to be the worst night of his life. But it was worth it to be near her.

CHAPTER15

JUPITER

The scentof butter and freshly popped corn greeted Jupiter the moment she and Dolly walked into the arcade. No children’s laughter greeted them. The arcade closed off after eight in the evening for adults only, or so said the sign on the front door.

“Come on, the guys are over there.” Dolly grabbed her hand, pulling her toward the pinball machines. A group of bikers and their accompanying partners filled the space.

Jupiter glanced around the large arcade. Macha cuts were visible in every direction. Playful laughs filled the air, and she noticed the club girls milling about, going from game to game. They mostly stayed in groups of two or three, each woman dressed for optimal attention. There was no mistaking what they were there for.

“What guy wouldn’t wanna win air hockey, then fuck a girl in the arcade bathroom?” She rolled her eyes, staying to the edge of the biker group.

“Well, me for starters.”

Jupiter whirled around and spun right into Rubble. Lifting her gaze, she met his steely eyes. “W—what?”

His gaze softened. “I’m not a big fan of bathroom sex.” He shrugged. “Just doesn’t do it for me.”

“But the rest sounds good?”

Rubble leaned closer until his mouth hovered above hers. “When you beat a game, there’s this high that surges in your veins. You feel invincible even if it’s in a dumbass arcade.” His eyes dropped to her lips, and she held her breath. He lifted his thumb to her bottom lip, grazing it. “With all that adrenaline pumping, yeah, sex sounds really good right about then.”

Wetting her lips, Jupiter inhaled sharply at the hue in his mismatched eyes. A shot of desire pulsed between her legs, heart racing at the thought of what he’d do next. She couldn’t just close the space and kiss him.Could I?She studied his lips, imagining them gliding across hers. He’d been distant the last few days and she hated it. This flirty behavior was precisely what her body craved.

“Wanna find out?” He eased back and held up two cards. “Fueled up and ready to go.”

Not bothering to tamp down her giddy response, she snatched one of the cards. “Let’s do it.” He smirked and Jupiter cringed. “Oh, God, notit.”

“Patience, woman. We’ll get there.” Chuckling, he shook his head. “I’m a Skee-Ball legend ’round these parts.”
