Doc snorted then walked into the lodge, a gust of warmth reaching Rubble for a split second. His muscles burned from the recent events, but he wouldn’t leave the lodge until he was certain Jupiter was unharmed.

Finding a bench, he swept off the snow and sat. He felt a vibration from his pocket and fished out Jupiter’s phone. Multiple missed calls and texts greeted him. They were all from her soon-to-be ex. He read a few messages, jaw tightening the longer he skimmed them. The last one solidified the ache in his gut.

Lyle: I found you, my precious pet. Hiding in Colorado. Such a stupid idea. Be there soon.

His fingers itched to send a reply that’d send the man straight to a safe house, but he wouldn’t. Crushing the man under his boot also sounded like a good idea, but he couldn’t afford it if he lost. In such a short time, Jupiter became his everything, and he’d die before letting that asshole of a man touch her again.

Damn, I need to bring this to Prez. She wasn’t an old lady, but neither was Nikita when they helped her. Jupiter needed the club’s support, and he was damned sure she’d get it.

He stuffed the phone back in his coat and pulled out his own Android. Dialing, he didn’t have to wait long for the call to connect. “We have a situation.”

“With…?”

“Jupiter.”

Rubble held his breath, waiting for Reaper’s response. If Queenie were nearby, there’d be no questioning the answer. Jupiter meant more to him than any person he’d known. If he had to fight her ex on his own, he’d do it.

“Church at eight tonight. I’ll send the text.”

“Thanks, Prez.”

“Don’t thank me yet, Rubble.”

He hung up and seven seconds later, the MC members group chat had a new message. It eased his anxiety but only minutely.Well now I know how Kevlar felt when he asked the club for help.Macha hadn’t flinched at the scenario. But this is different.Jupiter wasn’t a club princess or an FBI agent taking down a rival MC. Jupiter was a battered woman on the run. Surely, his club wouldn’t let him down.I never have.

CHAPTER23

JUPITER

“Any pain here?”

Jupiter winced. “A little, yeah.”

Doc carefully rested her left arm in a sling. “The good news is nothing’s broken.”

“And the bad news?”

“You’re gonna have a shit ton of visitors.” He stood and grinned. “But the main one you’ll like, I think.”

Glancing at the door, Jupiter wished Rubble would stroll through it. Since arriving at the lodge, he hadn’t stepped foot in the room, and she didn’t understand why.

“He’ll be along eventually.”

She looked up at the club’s doctor. With his slightly longer hair than the rest of his brothers and a swoon worthy smile, Isa was lucky to snag such a guy.

“Thanks for everything you did.” She sat up and tried to adjust the pillow behind her back but having her arm in a sling made it quite the endeavor until Doc helped.

He walked to the door and paused. “Rubble knows a good soul when he meets one.”

“You think so?

“I know so.” Doc grinned. “Try to take it easy for a few days.”

Jupiter offered him a weak smile. “Thanks, I will.”

Doc closed the door quietly behind him, leaving her alone in the room that had been decorated as if torn from a wilderness cabin. Macha’s entire lodge seemed to have a recurring theme. The giant fireplace visible upon opening the front doors and the woodsy rooms only reinforced her impression.

Glancing at the bear-shaped clock, she sighed. She was late to help Yasmina with the bakery. Their little skiing adventure wasn’t supposed to end this way. Wriggling into the blanket, she pulled it over her head. “Maybe I’m bad luck. Shit keeps happening when I’m around.”
