“I’m hungry,” she said, knocking on the door.

Hawk sighed. “I’ll get you a sandwich if you promise to stay put. Rubble will kick my ass to Mexico if you sneak out.”

“I won’t leave.” She meant it this time. She wouldn’t leave. Not until she knew Rubble was all right. A group of Macha bikers were on their way to confront Lyle. It sent her anxiety into overdrive. They didn’t know what they were walking into. Lyle seemed liked a dumbass rancher, but he was much craftier than his guise. If only Rubble had let me go.

Jupiter chewed on her thumbnail. She sat on the bed, the frame squeaking softly. Eyeing the room, she noticed how tidy it was. His Marines background was showing. She smirked and lay back on the bed, the ceiling fan oscillating slowly. It had been turned on every time they slept together. She’d mentioned it to him in passing, but he’d remembered, and the damn thing was never turned off.

The door swung open and banged the wall beside it.

Rolling her eyes, Jupiter leaned up on her elbows. “Please tell me there was some of that leftover chicken Queenie made for my—”

Rubble stood in the doorway and her words dropped off. The light behind him blocked out his face. When he stepped inside and shut the door, he turned the lock as well. Blood stained his exposed skin and clothes. A cry caught in her throat at the damage done to his face.

Getting to her feet, she rushed to him. “Oh my God, are you all right?”

He winced and eased away from her touch. “I’m fine. Just a scuffle.”

Jupiter frowned and pointed to the streak of blood on his cheek. “You call this fine? What the hell did you do?”

Rubble snapped his eyes to her. “Defended myself, that’s what.” He walked to the bed, tearing off clothes as he took lumbering steps.

It was then that she noticed him favoring his left side. Streaks of blood covered the tattoos on his bald head. His face pinched with pain as he slid off his jacket.

She covered her mouth with her hands. “He did this to you.”

Pulling off his shirt, Rubble nodded once. “He had more bodyguards than we expected.”

“You idiot! Of course he did!”

Rubble whirled around, his eyes fierce. “One million dollars, Jupiter. That’s how badly he wants you back as his punching bag.”

The blood drained from her face. “What?”

“He offered it to us. Cash.” Rubble kicked off his boots and unbuckled his belt.

Fear suddenly crept into Jupiter’s mind. If one of the club members wasn’t as noble as Rubble, she might not make it out of Snowshoe alive. “No one wanted to accept it, did they?”

He pulled his belt through the loops quickly, the zing stinging the air between them. “How can you even ask me that? After all we’ve been through, you honestly believe Macha would sell a woman.”

She didn’t know how to respond. She didn’t want to believe it, but her history with Lyle didn’t leave her trusting many men.

Rubble groaned and shook his head. “Jesus, Jupiter. None of my men would ever betray a woman like that. That’s not us. That’s not Macha. I thought you knew that.”

“So did I, but it’s a lot of money, Rubble. What if one of the new guys makes a deal with Lyle?”

She went for the exit, but he made it there first, his long legs eating the distance. “Oh, no you don’t, baby girl.” He trapped her against the door, hands on either side of her head.

The metallic scent of blood clung in the air, and she closed her eyes. It wasn’t all Rubble’s, that much she could tell. But some of it is.She couldn’t live with his blood on her conscious.

“I wouldn’t blame you,” she finally said, opening her eyes.

Rubble let out a weary sigh. “Goddammit, Jupiter, you drive me crazy.”

She lifted her brows, but he silenced any question with his lips over hers. Whimpering, she laced her arms around his neck. His solid body slammed against her, pinning her to the door almost as roughly as his lips took hers. Lust poured through her veins, warmth blossoming in the pit of her stomach. She’d never known a man like this. He was the tinder she so desperately needed to stoke her inner fire, and he did it so easily. Rubble made every emotion come to the surface.

He tore away her shirt, the ripping of the thin fabric heating her cheeks and enticing her further. Her bra fell away, and he captured her nipple in his mouth, teeth grazing the taut bud. Jupiter arched into him, the sensations shooting like stars behind her eyes.

Rubble grabbed her by the waist and tossed her on the bed. Before she could recover, his muscular body was there, pulling her up to the headboard and peeling away her jeans and panties. She was completely bare against the soft bedding. She tried to kiss him, but he gripped her wrists in one hand and propped them above her head.
