The way the woman said the words sent a cold shiver down Delphi’s spine. Looking around the cantina, she recognized more leather cuts and fewer city residents who were merely popping in for lunch. She could’ve sworn the lighting had dimmed since they arrived.

“He’ll be back. Just had to check on something.” She scrolled on her phone, thumbs hovering over the dial pad. If worse came to worse, she could call for help, but it’d be too late by the time local law enforcement showed up. Until Brewer returned, she was on her own.In a biker bar.She held her breath. You make wonderful life decisions, Delphi Windsor.

“Sure, honey.” The woman chuckled. “I saw them go to the back.” She lowered her voice when a couple walked past them. “That’s where the dolls stay during their breaks.”

Delphi had heard about the Cutthroat dolls and had even seen a few in the past. They had a designated place for playing their role in the MC. It was a dollhouse not far from here, making it easy for them to come and go as they pleased with the club men.

“I wouldn’t sleep with him if I were you.”

A loud bark of laughter escaped her before she could stop it. Even if her body knew the opposite, she felt compelled to say, “Believe me, I wouldn’t touch him with a ten-foot pole.”

“Who has a ten-foot pole?”

Delphi and the waitress looked up, surprised to see Brewer back from his errand.

“Uh, nobody.”

He held out his hand, and Delphi willingly took it. “Let’s hit the road, sweet cheeks. Got a lot of miles to put under us.” Brewer wrapped an arm around her waist as she rose from her seat. “If you value your life or mine at all, for the love of Macha, don’t fight it,” he said in a low tone of voice before she could react.

Looking behind them, Delphi held in a gasp. A group of Cutthroat bikers were watching them leave, their faces anything but friendly.Oh shit! She had to commend Brewer for not sprinting out of the bar like her legs desperately craved.

“Did you kill someone?”

“What? No. Please keep your mouth shut for once.” His hand tightened and she fought the urge to spit venom-filled words at him. If they were hustling out of a biker bar, there had to be a good reason.

Almost there, she repeated until Brewer pushed the door open. The sun hit her seconds later, warming her fingers that she hadn’t realized were ice cold. Instead of letting go, Brewer kept his hold, only releasing her when they reached his motorcycle.

“What was that all about?” She faced him, putting her back to the bar. “Did you piss them off or something?”

“Or something.” Brewer fastened his helmet quickly, then went to work on hers. His fingers moved deftly under her chin, ensuring the helmet was snug before he hopped on the bike. “We really need to go.”

“But—”

“Now,” he growled. “I’ll answer all your questions later.” His blue eyes met hers. “Please just get on the bike.”

The sincerity in his voice compelled her head to nod and body to slide in place behind him. Engine revving, they rolled out of the parking lot. Hugging her arms more tightly around him, she caught a glimpse of the town’s MC members milling outside of the cantina, guns glimmering in the sunlight. What the hell did he do?

CHAPTER11

BREWER

Delphi.

“What’d you say?”

The older biker blew a stream of smoke toward Brewer. “Is that Delphi Windsor?”

Clenching his jaw, Brewer sized up the man who was wearing a faded black cut with the Cutthroat emblem proudly displayed. The patch name said Sully, and Brewer racked his brain, trying to place him. He knew of most the Cutthroat MC patch members, but this one was older. He bet his dad would’ve known him.

Brewer rolled back his shoulders, standing a little taller now. “What’s it to you?”

Sully cracked a half smile. “Old business, I suppose. Nothing that concerns you.”

Before Brewer could question him, another biker nudged him.

“That your girl, or is she available?” The man was a few years older than Brewer, tattoos covering every inch of exposed skin. “I’d get her back to you in one piece.”

“Fuck off. She’s mine,” Brewer growled. He curled his hands into fists, heat coursing up his skin.
