“Damn, she’s gonna pop any minute.”

The two exchanged frantic expressions, then laughed.

“Doc will be a wreck.” Jupiter smirked. “Can’t wait to watch it all go down.”

“Sadist,” Delphi teased.

“Hardly. I’m more interested in seeing how Rubble reacts to everything. It’ll give me a good idea how he’ll be when this little one makes a grand debut.”

Delphi watched her friend rub her stomach protectively. “Everything going well in the Rubble arena?”

A whimsical smile covered Jupiter’s face, instantly making Delphi jealous. That was the expression she hoped to have herself someday. “Oh, yeah, you have no idea. He’s such a sweetheart. Always doting and worrying about me.”

“Rubble? The ex-MMA fighter and former military dude?”

“Don’t forget foster kid.”

“Wow, I never knew.”

“There’s a lot more to a Macha man than you realize,” Jupiter said with a knowing wiggle of her brows. “Aren’t you curious what Brewer’s really like?”

She was. More than she’d admit, but still, she feigned disinterest. “Eh.”

“Oh, whatever.” Jupiter playfully shoved Delphi’s elbows off the table. “You’re a horrible liar.”

“You say that like it’s a bad thing.” Delphi noticed Edgar’s eyes bulging, and he looked ready to start muttering in Italian at them. “I should probably get back to work. The dinner rush must’ve gotten a second wind, and Edgar can’t go it alone.”

Jupiter stood. “Shit, sorry. I’m monopolizing you.”

Delphi hugged her friend. “Never apologize for that. I enjoy spending time with you. And I’m more than happy to rest for a few minutes. I’ve been going nonstop the last five days.”

“Hmm, I wonder why.”

Delphi shook her finger at her friend. “None of that.” She gently rubbed Jupiter’s stomach. “I’ll be by tomorrow to pick up those cherry pastries.”

“Great. See you then.”

Once Jupiter disappeared from her sight, Delphi let out a sigh. Asking about Brewer was more than tempting, but she’d refrained.Somehow.

“All right, Edgar. What do we have?”

She walked back into the throng of the dinner rush, ready to focus on something other than Macha and her sudden mess of a life.

By the timeDelphi shut off the bistro lights, all she wanted was a breath of fresh air. Normally, she jogged in the morning, but tonight was different. She had a ball of pent-up energy she needed to get rid of fast. Hurrying to change, Delphi scratched Fiona’s head before running down the stairs and out into the darkness. Her Macha bodyguard stayed in his truck but started the engine when she took a left toward the city square. Music filled her earbuds, her phone finally synced with a new playlist. The city lights flickered on the main drag, but she wasn’t worried. Even if she couldn’t outrun an attacker, the biker in the pickup would step in.

Cars passed slowly beside her on the sidewalk winding through the street. It felt good to be out and about again. The evening rush had been hell, and her unresolved issues with Brewer kept festering under the surface. The man drove her nuts, but her body craved for him to undress her and kiss her until she forgot why she was mad at him.

Delphi shook the thoughts away before she lost control. Looking in both directions, she crossed the street. The sweat sliding down her body felt good, but it also sent her mind spiraling to thoughts of how it’d feel if it was the result of spending naked time with Brewer.Damn man won’t get out of my mind even when I jog!She paused at another stoplight, jogging in place.

“Hey, Delphi, is that you?” a muffled voice called. She barely heard it above the hum of the Enrique Iglesias melody.

Delphi pulled out one earbud and looked to her left. Her throat dried at the sight of the man hanging out of the blue Mustang. “Grant.”

“I go by Granite these days, but yeah.” His dark eyes skimmed her tight leggings. “You’re looking good. Very good.”

The light changed and she started running the opposite direction. It didn’t take long for the rumble of the car to catch up with her.
