“Yep.”

Nodding to Sully, Granite pulled Delphi out of the room and into the hallway. She took a deep lungful of air, glad for the change in environment. Her pulse quickened at the sound of motorcycles pulling up in the parking lot. Even if they weren’t Macha, she had a chance to escape if Granite had club business to attend to for a while.

“Let’s get you to the dollhouse,” Granite said, picking her up again.

“Dammit, man, I know how to walk.”

“Yeah, but you’re too slow. I gotta deal with some shitheads.”

Delphi didn’t say another word while Granite hurried them to the dollhouse not far away. The rain had picked up, drenching her by the time he deposited her on one of the beds and locked the door, leaving her alone.

Pacing the stingy room, she wracked her brain. She couldn’t remember seeing Sully at the Cutthroat’s clubhouse, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t there. She’d been so concerned with Shovelhead that she ignored the other men in the club.

Delphi crossed to the barred window and opened it. She needed fresh air if she was going to survive in the room for much longer. A throbbing ache crept into her head, and she rubbed her temples, hoping to make it disappear.

A slew of curse words escaped from the hallway, and she bit her bottom lip. If Macha was there like Granite said, surely, they’d come to rescue her. The sound of guns firing made her shrink further away from the door. If she had to, she’d hold her own. She could bite, kick, and claw at any Cutthroat who came to get her. She’d survive. She always had.

Letting out a shaky breath, Delphi couldn’t wrap her mind around the last few hours. Her childhood was full of lies and deceit. Of course, she didn’t find any fault with her mother for keeping her parentage a secret. Not when the sperm donor didn’t give a damn.

Delphi’s body begged for a nap, but the bed looked far from clean. She leaned against the wall with her face toward the open window. Stray raindrops pelted her face, and she welcomed the refreshment.

The sounds of men yelling drifted down the hallway accompanied by gunfire echoing in every direction. She couldn’t think about what was happening outside. It’d only make her feel worse about the situation. She should’ve stayed with Brewer, tucked safely in his arms until this whole mess was sorted out.

Thinking back to Sully’s revelation, she shook her head. It didn’t matter which man’s blood coursed through her veins. Her father died last year. He wasn’t biologically hers, but he treated her as such and never faltered when it came to loving her.

“I don’t know why I cared so much about finding out,” she said to the empty room.

“Because knowing your past helps form your future.”

Delphi whirled around and didn’t hold back her relieved cry at seeing Brewer in the doorway. His lip was bruised, and a trickle of blood pooled at the corner of his eye, but he was there. He’d come for her. She rushed over to him and jumped into his arms. He tightened them around her in the best vice grip she could imagine.

Brewer kissed the nape of her neck, then pulled her back. “Are you hurt?” His blue eyes scanned her while his hands did the same. “Did he touch you?”

“No, I’m fine.” She gently wiped away the blood on his brow. “Are you all right?”

“I’m just dandy, sweet cheeks.” He smirked, then winced when it opened a cut on his bottom lip. “You should see the other guy.”

Her brow furrowed in the cutest way. “How many did you take on?”

Brewer tucked her hair behind her ears. “As many as I needed to get to you.”

Her cheeks flamed and then alarm flashed on her face when Hawk and Kevlar walked in. She quickly tried to hide her exposed flesh. Being naked in front of Brewer was one thing. She had no desire for his brothers to see her state of undress.

Seeing her dilemma, Brewer yanked her to him and pulled his jacket over them both. “Hawk, give me your sweatshirt.”

The other man begrudgingly handed over his hooded sweatshirt, leaving him in only his cut.

Brewer gently slid the warm fabric over her shoulders. “Best I can do at the moment.” He kissed her forehead. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

Delphi nodded against him. “I met my dad. Well, the sperm donor, I should say.”

“He’s a Cutthroat?”

“The treasurer, Sully.”

Cursing, Brewer hugged her again. “I’m sorry I wasn’t here to protect you.”

“You’re here now. That’s all that matters.”
