“He hired you as a temp.” I snorted. “He hired me, too.Ergo,colleague.”

I folded my arms and glared, and he did to. Harry’s eyes searched mine, but I didn’t back down.

“So. You really are telling the truth that you didn’t know who I was,” he mumbled.

“Yes. And I can tell you’re telling the truth, too.”

Harry’s brow smoothed. “So this was happenstance, then. Serendipity. Happy coincidence.”

“Thanks for that, Dr Thesaurus. I know what the big words mean.” I maintained my glare. “Anyway, I don’t think asking about a colleague’s vagina is appropriate for work-based conversation.”

“You were declaring the state of your bossy vagina to the street, so it was technically public knowledge.”

“As I stated earlier, it was a private conversation,” I ground out.

“What we did in my car was private,” he said, moving closer to me. “But the way you were talking just then, you might as well have used a megaphone.”

I huffed. “Fine.”

“So,” Harry grinned. “You think I’m hot?”

“Ugh. If you’ll excuse me, I’m on my lunch break and I’m hungry.”

I began to walk away but Harry blocked my exit, palms up.

“Wait—” He smiled—not an arrogant smirk, but a genuine one. “I’d like to see you again.”

“Why?”

“I’m sorry?” He frowned.

“Just because we had sex two days ago doesn’t mean you can proposition me for more sex at work!”

Harry raised both eyebrows. “First of all, we first met outside of work. And second, I just said I wanted to see you again. Those exact words I believe. I’d intended on a drink or a meal but you’re the one who keeps mentioning sex, so out of the two of us who really has sex on the brain, Nurse Turner?”

“I donotwant to see you,” I replied, primly. My vagina clenched at that point, as if pouting.

Can a vagina pout?

I was sure mine just did.

“Why not?”

“Work colleagues shouldn’t date.”

“Two adults can act like adults in the workplace and date. I saw nurses who worked with me at the hospital plenty of times and it was never a problem on the job.”

“I bet you saw plenty of nurses,” I said tartly.

Harry sucked his bottom lip as if stifling a laugh. “Did you just slut-shame me, Stacey?”

“I—” I shook my head. “Did you just try to ask me out by declaring your previous flings with your nursing colleagues? As evidence that I would want to go round two with you?”

“Well, I …”

“We need some ground rules, Dr Cain.” I stepped closer, jabbing my index finger in his chest.

“Rule number one, I don’t date co-workers. My work and my personal life are separate. No exceptions.”
