“Go have a break with your girl,” Rita said. “We can hold down the fort for a few minutes.”

Jasper seemed conflicted for a moment before nodding decisively and untying his apron. He slipped out to the front of the bakery, tugging me outside and pulling me into a proper kiss. He tasted as good as his bakery smelled.

“Can I sleep in your bed today?” I asked.

Jasper reacted as if I’d handed him a bouquet of flowers. “Of course you can. I like having you in there.”

“I like when you slip in next to me.” I kissed him again, basking in the soft sweetness of him. A more selfish person would’ve convinced him to come straight home, but he still had over an hour of work left.

“Have you eaten yet?” Jasper asked.

I shook my head.

“Come in and pick anything you want. Should I bring you some focaccia home?”

I brushed my lips over his and traced his jawline. “Yes, please.”

I tucked myself in for a hug, just savouring his proximity for a few minutes until I’d soaked up enough calm that I could let go again. Jasper took me back inside and fed me a raspberry croissant.

“I’m at my brother and sister-in-law's for dinner tonight,” I told him.

Jasper nodded. “I’ll bring two, then you can take one over and still have some leftovers for yourself.”

“Brilliant.” Stealing one more kiss, I headed to the pack house with a satisfied stomach. Tony, Billie, and Gabe were all in the kitchen when I arrived home. I greeted them each with a kiss and covered an insistent yawn with my hand.

“I’m going to crash. I’ll be in Jasper's room if anyone needs me or wants to join.”

“Dibs!”

I laughed as Billie hopped off their chair and followed me upstairs.

The two of us stripped down and snuggled up in the middle of Jasper's bed.

Billie was my cuddly jetpack. They were asleep almost instantly, their breath turning slow and even in my ear. I passed out a few moments later and woke briefly to Jasper climbing into bed. I snuggled in, breathing deeply. Somehow his chocolate and cinnamon scent seemed even sweeter than usual. I didn’t last in the waking world for long, and when I woke again, it was almost time for me to head out for dinner.

I groaned and stretched, wiggling my toes and weaselling my way deeper into Jasper's arms. The omega held me tighter but didn’t actually open his eyes. I traced patterns on his chest and let myself float for a few glorious minutes in the cloud of his scent. Billie wiggled at my back and pressed a kiss to my shoulder.

“Are we awake?” they asked.

“Barely. I should get up.”

“Oryou could stay here forever.” Billie snuggled closer.

“As tempting as that is, I do have to get dressed for dinner at my brother’s.”

“Family dinner?” Billie asked.

“Tiny one. Just the three of us. It's been ages since we’ve gotten to hang out.”

“I suppose I can suffer through your absence for that.” Billie laughed and gave me a tight squeeze then rolled over so I had space to sit up.

Jasper made a sound of protest and pulled me back down. He kissed me breathless before I was allowed to actually make it out of the bed. Of course, at that point it took a lot more willpower to manage.

Poor planning meant that all of my outfits were in the downstairs bedroom and I was very naked two floors above that. I snatched one of the smaller blankets that made up Jasper's nest and wrapped it around myself like a dress, collecting my discarded clothes from the floor. I swept down the stairs, waving to the alphas gathered in the kitchen as I disappeared down to the bottom level to get ready for my day.

It felt weird to be leaving the pack house all alone, but I was genuinely excited to hang out with Sidney and Allie. The drive to their place was only about twenty minutes, and Allie opened the front door before I even had a chance to knock. She crashed against me in a fierce hug, Sidney appearing at her back to bundle me into his arms, too.

“Quit hogging my sister,” Sidney said with a laugh.
