“Abit.” I laughed.

“I know the pack thing kinda throws people off sometimes, but Jasper and Tony both like you, and the others will too.”

“Others?” I choked out. “How many people are involved here?”

“Five, including me. Six if you say yes to a date, though the date is only with me unless you want someone else to join us.”

My head swam. “I don’t know how any of this works.”

Packs weren’t uncommon, but I had never personally met anyone in one. That I knew about, at least. It wasn’t like people went around carrying signs that announced their relationship set ups.

“Ignore the complexity for a minute.” Billie took my hand, and I squeezed the anchor gratefully. “Does breakfast with me sound good?”

I nodded.

“Cool. Then we can go from there. You just focus on aaall this,” Billie said, gesturing to their whole body. “I don’t know how to be subtle. You’re cute as fuck and I’m excited to take you out.”

I giggled, every bit of me flushed with warmth. I buried my face in my hands. “Oh god, I’m bad at compliments.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll desensitize you to them in short order.” Billie nudged me playfully. “Jaspy is already talking about baking lepyoshka and sugar bread thanks to your books.”

“I would turn into a little ball if I had a boyfriend that baked. I have no self control with fresh bread and it goes straight to my butt.”

Billie laughed, very un-subtly checking out my posterior. “Just more of you to love.”

I grinned. “Honestly, this is kinda opportune timing.”

“Oh?”

“I lied to my mom today about having a date so she wouldn’t make me go on some godawful setup.”

“Someone's naughty. Lying to your mama. Tsk.ButI suppose since I’ve negated the lie, it's fine. Nice to have a parent that's interested at least.”

I contemplated asking more about that, but Billie was already moving right along and asking for help finding some books on famous beta artists. We found a thick tome with artists separated out by their dynamic and Billie hauled it back to their hangout spot.

Tony hadn’t asked for any books, and was sitting at a laptop, typing away when I came over to let them know I was going to be running the vacuum.

“What’re you working on?” I asked him.

Tony glanced up. “Copyediting a novella for a client. It’s much more fun than my usual work of copyediting political paperwork.”

“That’s so cool! I definitely want to hear more on my next break.”

The floors weren’t going to clean themselves. I had a few chores on my list to keep them off the plate of the day and evening staff. Most of the programming was relegated to day and evening, leaving the nights for staying organized, tidying, and setting up programs for the morning. There was something so soothing about making sure everything was in order. Chores at home were less fun, but doing them here felt like much less of a Sisyphean ordeal.

Billie popped up while I was lost in my own thoughts, swishing the vacuum over the carpet. I leapt away, hand to my chest, when I finally noticed them hovering. I flipped the switch on the vacuum and stood it up.

“Sorry, you scared me. What's up?”

“We’re taking Jaspy to work now. I’ll come back at seven. That's when you get off, right?”

I nodded, feeling a little breathless at the prospect. “Yep.”

“Perfect.” Billie's wide smile had my stomach flipping. “See you in the morning, Books.”
