“Do you want children, Nicky?” Beryl asked.

Jasper practically leapt over the kitchen table to get to me and wedged himself between his mother and me. “Mom, for the love of god!”

I giggled as Jasper wrapped me in his embrace and covered both of my ears.

Opal had trotted after Jasper and stole me out of his grasp to hug me herself. “Don’t mind her dear.”

“That's rude, Opal. You’re lucky you’re cute,” Beryl said, a smirk turning her lips.

“Come on, you know the rule about flirting in front of me,” said Jasper, stealing me back from Opal.

In retaliation his moms’ delivered about a dozen very loud kisses all over one another's cheeks, much to my delight.

Beryl stared me down again. “I do think we should be allowed to know our son’s new bondmate’s feelings on family, though.”

“Oh.” I shrank under her scrutiny, nestling against Jasper. “Um, well, I had a stretch of not great relationships, so it was never something I let myself seriously consider, but I think a pack baby would be the sweetest. I’d love any child that came into this house, no matter which of the pack were the parents.”

That seemed to satisfy Beryl, and Jasper nuzzled my cheek.

The front door swung open, and I froze, my heart leaping into my throat at the sudden intrusion. Hana put herself bodily between Jasper and I and the door. I stared at the black silk of Hana’s hair and the tension of her shoulders, the burnt edge of her scent invading my nose. She wasscared.

“Koji!” snapped Hana. “You’re supposed to knock like a civilized human being.”

I recognized the name and peeked around her, looping my arm through Hana’s.

Koji sauntered in, his black hair spiked into a faux hawk, his denim jacket covered in patches and pins, and his smile a mile wide. “I only knock when I don’t know for sure whether you’re occupied with the pack or not. Presumably, if you’re having guests over, you’ll be fully clothed.”

Hana rolled her eyes but held open her arms for Koji to slide in for a hug. She was a solid foot taller than him, and I felt a little bit like a giant when he turned to me.

“Glad to see my sister's taste hasn’t gone downhill in her old age.”

It was a sweet enough sentiment, considering I was still recovering from all of the chaos that had happened.

Hana flipped him the bird playfully. “Don’t be a dick. Nicky's older than me.”

“I’m never a dick,” Koji said. “I’m pure delight.”

I snickered. “I’m going to agree on the delight part.”

“Don’t encourage him.” Hana smushed down his faux hawk, and Koji tried to play bite her hand.

“Introduce me properly,” Koji demanded.

Hana sighed and pulled me closer. “Koji, this is Nicky. Nicky, this is Koji, my little brother who is also a punk-ass bitch.”

Koji snorted. “Only the first of those three descriptorsactuallyapplies. You doing okay since the break in?”

“Um, more or less. I’m doing physiotherapy for a little while that Hana’s helping me with, and I met my psychologist for the first time this morning. She seems really nice.”

“Props.” Koji grinned. “Healing is hard work, no matter what kind of it you’re doing. You like your therapist?” he asked Hana.

“So far, so good,” Hana replied. She’d met hers this morning too. We’d managed to find two that worked in the same building and seemed to suit our needs, so we’d gone together.

Some motorcycles roared up to the house, and we all turned the front door.

“That’ll be my clan,” said Tony.

He opened the door for them, and a group of four tromped in wearing their leathers and heavy boots. Tony was pulled immediately into a raucous group hug.
