Callie’s main stream of revenue was her Instagram travel account, so she could come and go between the trips she had planned for summer.

“So, that’s settled, then?” Paige stood and dropped her hands to her hips as though she were claiming victory.

“As long as it’s okay with you, Emmet?” Callie asked and not for the first time this afternoon.

Brodie questioned what was up between the two of them because something was off and he couldn’t quite put his finger on whether it was a strong dislike of each other or sexual tension.

Judging by Emmet’s apathetic response, he guessed it was the former of the two.

“And there’s one more thing,” Paige grinned.

Everyone groaned in unison.

Brodie made a mental note to never let her chair another meeting, as she liked the sound of her own voice a little too much for his attention span.

Callie interjected. “I spoke with Paige last night and we’ve both decided to get tested. I don’t know how you girls feel about it, but if there’s even a minute chance that we could be a match, then we feel like we should try.”

“I was thinking the exact same thing. I looked into it last night and it says that you don’t necessarily need to be a match to become a donor,” Lennon explained.

“I don’t think I’ll be able to. You know how scared I am of needles. It’s pathetic I know but I just don’t think I could bring myself to do it,” Jayda folded her arms in frustration.

Brodie jumped to his feet. “Guys, you have no idea what this means to me and to our family. I’m so grateful to all of you for being here under the worst of circumstances and I never in a million years expected you to want to stay or get tested. I wasn’t sure you’d even come.”

“Of course, we’d come. Sophia is our best friend. We know she’d do the same for us because it’s the right thing to do.” Lennon stood and squeezed his shoulder.

“Bring it in,” Paige announced.

“We’re not bringing it in, Paige,” Emmet shook his head.

“Dog-pile then?” She grinned.

“Are we like five years old, here?” Jayda rolled her eyes right before Paige snatched her hand and jumped on Emmet’s lap.

Emmet yelled as Callie launched herself on top of the pile, squishing everyone.

Arms and legs flew as everyone piled on and they yanked Brodie forward before he got a chance to argue, Brodie was pulled straight into the madness.

When he managed to break free, he set to work talking them into the plans for the night ahead.

CHAPTER 13

“I’m not sure I can take any more surprises,” Sophia moaned, climbing into Brodie’s truck.

He shut her door and climbed in beside her before he replied. “You’ll like this one, I know it.”

“I feel like I’m living in a birthday. Every day there are more treats. Tomorrow, I’m going to take you out for the evening, if I have the energy for it.”

“Don’t worry about tomorrow. Just focus on tonight. I want you to enjoy it as much as you can.”

“Okay, I promise. And you’re sure the girls are all fine with staying at Emmet’s? It’s so sweet of him to offer to have them all at his place.”

“He’s good.”

“I guess he can just make himself scarce for the week if it all gets too much.”

“I’m not supposed to tell you this, so act surprised when your friends say something, but they’re staying in town for a lot longer than the week, Sophia.”

“What do you mean?”
