This was all him: all the wild flowers in her friend’s hands, the white curtains that billowed in the breeze, making the arch he’d probably built himself look like something from a fairy-tale. Every detail had been carefully planned and prepared just for her.

If the intention was to create a perfect moment, they could both hold on to forever, Brodie had his wish and then some.

Emmet paused, not knowing what to do next, and Sophia giggled.

“You can put me down now.”

He nodded and placed her down on the sand before her future husband.

Daisy dumped the entire basket of petals at her feet, setting off a flutter of laughter that rippled through the crowd.

“You’re a vision,” Brodie whispered.

“I love you,” she whispered back as she leaned against him and a steadying arm wrapped around her waist.

When he could eventually peel his eyes off his bride, Brodie nodded to Judge Moher, who had convinced to lead their ceremony at short notice.

“Who gives this woman’s hand in marriage?” Judge Moher asked.

“I do,” Robbie said, the two words a little louder than he intended to and his voice silenced all the guests as they watched on.

Judge Moher nodded, and Robbie stepped back.

The family and friends all looked on with smiles in their eyes, but neither Brodie nor Sophia noticed anything except each other.

When it was Brodie’s turn to take his vows, he pulled a note from his pocket and cleared his throat.

“Sophia, you have been the one for me since I first laid eyes on you. You’re my best friend and the love of my life. Every day with you in it is a miracle to me and I only hope that I bring you a fraction of the happiness you bring to me.” He smiled lovingly at Sophia.

Sophia sensed he was getting emotional and pulled her weight from him to turn and face him. She placed both hands in his, though it took a great deal of strength to do so. She watched him swallow back emotion before he continued.

“I will love you beyond my last breath and I can’t believe that out of all the men on the planet, I’m the one who gets to marry you. You make me a better man by loving me the way you do and with everything I am, I take you to be my wife.”

Tears rolled down his cheeks and he let them, never letting go of Sophia’s hands.

“How’s she supposed to follow that?” Paige called out.

Everyone chuckled through their tears.

Sophia tore her eyes away from Brodie and gazed around to drink in the sight of her family and friends all rooting for them from rows of white plastic chairs.

Brodie squeezed her hands in his, as if to let her know the moment was real and not a dream. For her, it felt exactly that.

Just like floating in the hot-air balloon, she couldn’t quite take her situation in, as much as she wanted to.

“Brodie, there is a love that only you can give. A shade of blue that I’ve only ever seen in your eyes. A smile that I know is meant just for me and a part of me that only you can complete. I love you.” She smiled up at him through her tears. Her off-the-cuff speech had the effect she hoped; she watched more tears fall from his eyes.

“So, do you take him to be your husband?” Judge Moher arched his brow, causing them both to chuckle.

“Yes, I do. Of course, I do.”

“Then I happily pronounce you husband and wife.”

CHAPTER 26

Brodie’s mind was elsewhere. As much as he wanted to absorb every waking moment he and Sophia had together, he had fixated on getting through to Friday. He’d run through what he was going to say to Austin when he finally got a chance to talk to him, but now the moment had arrived; his voice betrayed him.

“Are you there?”
