I care about football.
I care about getting my grades up.
And, strangely enough, I’m starting to care about her.
And that’s what scares me the most.
“Yeah,” I whisper. “I do.”
Lennon leans up and into me, sending her lips into mine.
I know that I could stop this, but I don’t.
It’s just for tonight. Just for right now. Just this far.
I take her lips into mine and I claim her with my mouth. I can’t have her tomorrow. But just for a moment, I can pretend. I kiss her hard, full of desperation. And then, I soften it, like you would kiss someone you love.
Until I finally pull away.
Chapter Six
LENNON
I sit very straight in my chair, waiting for Rayn to walk through the door.
I’m not sure how to approach this situation.
There areverystrict rules about tutor-and-student dating. Not that we’re dating. I mean, it was one kiss.
One veryhotkiss.
One very hotdrunkenkiss that I cannot believe I started.
This is why I don’t let myself go out. People do stupid things when they drink alcohol. Stupid things like kissing the students that they tutor.
God.
I’ve never done this before. But, I tutor Rayn Trist for one day and I’m making out with him in a bar.
What is it with this guy?
Rayn walks through the door with a friendly smile on his face. Not friendly. Cordial. It’s the kind of smile you’d give to your professor. An acquaintance.
Not the kind of smile you’d give to the girl you’d just kissed last night.
“Good morning,” he says.
“Good morning,” I say back, following his lead.
He starts to unpack his books again in the same way that he did yesterday.
When he’s done, he turns to me and says, “I have a Chemistry test next Thursday. I also have a Political Science quiz every Friday. The next Sociology test isn’t for a couple of weeks. And I believe I have a Computer Science project coming up, too. I have the abstract for that.”
I stare at him blankly.
“You okay?” he asks.
I am not about to be the why-haven’t-you-called girl. So, I decide that I can play this game, too. If he is going to pretend that the kiss didn’t happen, I am going to pretend the kiss didn’t happen right along with him.
