I take her hand in mine.

And it’s game over.

I don’t know how to explain it. Feeling this stranger’s hand in mine, shaking her hand, seeing her face, it’s like… electricity. She is electricity shocked through my body.

Nora.

I haven’t felt like this about anyone since Busy’s mom.

I was starting to wonder if I ever would again.

“I’m Judah Parks,” I tell her. Then I point at Busy, who just kicked the ball so hard that it landed in the next field over. “And the one with the power leg, Busy, is my daughter.”

Coach Nora looks over to Busy and smiles. “Pretty impressive for a four-year-old.”

“Well, I won’t keep you,” I tell her, even though I want to keep talking to her, but I can tell that the mothers are getting anxious for practice. “I’m snack dad today, by the way. Orange slices and water. We normally do that when practice is over.”

Coach Nora smiles at me.

Her smile is so bright that it nearly bowls me over.

“Thanks,” she tells me. “My brother told me.”

That’s when it hits me.

Her brother.

I don’t know how I didn’t see the resemble before.

“Oh you’re Coach Trent’s sister?” I ask, amazed that I had not seen it before just now.

Coach Nora smiles at me again. “Yes. We’re twins, actually.”

I nod.

I can’t unsee it now.

Coach Nora is Coach Trent’s twin. She’s my daughter’s coach, for now.

And I should stay miles away from her.

Chapter Two

Nora

My brother called me last night.

Whenever I see his name cross my phone at night, I feel this kind of lump in my stomach.

Trent and I are twins, but I have always been more of the “big sister” role. We’re in our late twenties, and he still calls me to pick him up from the bars as if I am his personal Lyft driver. He asks to borrow money every now and then, too.

But I love him, even if he is a mess sometimes.

“It’s a little early to need a ride, isn’t it?” I asked him.

He was breathing kind of heavy through the phone, like he was working out. “Very funny. Look, I need a favor.”

It was weird.
