Shivers run up my spine. So far, the letters have been your typical stalker-type language, mostly confessing their love and desire for me. They’ve yet to threaten me with physical violence. I guess that’s changed. Tears prick my eyes, but I don’t let them fall.

“Are you okay?” Gia asks quietly. She rests her hand on my shoulder, but I jump at her touch. It gives my fear away instantly.

“Just peachy.” The room fills with a heavy silence, and I feel Eric and Gia giving each other that stare again. “What else aren’t you telling me?”

Eric sits down next to me, his long legs leaning against mine. “The label called; they want to cancel the rest of the tour until this thing calms down.”

“Fuck no!” I yell, my anger boiling up immediately. I stand, throwing my hands around as I pace, trying to get rid of some of my nervous energy. “There’s no way in hell I’m going to cancel my tour. Do you know how many celebrities and singers have stalkers? They don’t cancel their tours. I have fans that paid a lot of money to see me, people that rely on me to pay their bills. I’m not canceling.”

“The label is concerned for your safety. For the safety of everyone. If anything goes wrong-”

“It’s a freaking stalker who’s seeking attention. If we give in, they get what they want. And what am I supposed to do, just go home and hope they don’t attack me in my house instead? There has to be another option.”

“Gia and I had a feeling you would say that. So, we came up with an idea we want to run by you first.”

I stop pacing, turning to face the worried and anxiety riddled gazes of my two friends. “I’m listening.”

“We think you should get a bodyguard.”

A snort breaks through my mouth before nervous laughter bubbles up out of me. “You can’t be serious.”

“Let’s Kevin Costner this shit,” Eric smirks, proud of hisBodyguardreference.

“I’m not Whitney Houston or the President. We can just get more venue security. I don’t need a bodyguard.”

Eric glances at Gia, and I can see it all over his face.

“Jesus. You already told the label this plan, didn’t you?”

“Maybe,” Gia squeaks. Literally squeaks.

“Why?”

“Because,” Eric sighs. “They were going to cancel the tour, and this is the best we could come up with.”

“You’re saying I have to get a bodyguard?”

Eric nods. “It’s either that or we cancel the tour, Birdie. Those are the options.”

I rub my hands over my face. “I want him to be invisible. As if he’s not even there. You know I like my privacy.”

“He’ll be like Casper the Friendly Ghost.” Gia confirms. “I already have a few options lined up. Someone should be in New Jersey in the next couple days. I promise I’ll pick the best of the best. Maybe someone cute too,” she winks.

“I can’t believe this is happening.”A freaking bodyguard.

“Good work. I’m impressed.”

I roll my shoulder, it feels good. Which makes me break out into a grin. It’s been a long ride getting back in shape after my accident.

I look over at Ben. “Me too. Glad I’m almost back to where I was before.”

“You’re a fucking beast, man. I’m proud of you.”
