“Sasha was next door helping watch her friend’s kids. They lost their cat or so they thought until Sasha heard a noise and opened the door and found the cat’s body and severed head in a bag on the front porch.”

“Fucking asshole,” Grim cursed.

“Who the fuck kills a cat and dumps it for the kids to find?” Papa was pissed. “I’ll find the fucker and gut him like a fish.”

Several heads nodded their agreement.

“Why are they coming after the kids?” Grim shook his head. “That’s fucked-up.”

“They’re after Sasha’s friend Gina. She borrowed ten grand and can’t pay it back. Sasha couldn’t find out who the lender was but it must be connected to the Scorpions and Chamuco. The cat was dumped around the same time the apartment was broken into.”

“Yeah, no coincidence,” Mammoth agreed.

“Sasha is being targeted and we know it’s Chamuco. He’s now fully patched into the Scorpions which means his allegiance to Primal is probably a thing of the past.” Grim leaned forward, piercing us all with a stern look. “My guess is that he’s broken ties with Salazar too. It’s exactly what I was waiting on. Now we can move forward.”

“What does that mean?” I asked, staring him down. “Are you telling me I can go after Chamuco now?”

“I’ve got a phone call to make first,” he announced, laying down his phone and dialing a number, placing the cell on speaker.

“Grim.” Salazar’s smooth, thickly accented voice filled the room.

“You know why I’m calling.”

“Sí. Leash is off, mi amigo.”

“You’re sayin’ what?” Grim clarified.

“Our mutual friend is no longer under my protection.”

“And?”

“Let your beast loose,” he answered with a dark laugh, “I want him to suffer.”

Fuck. I needed to bring Sasha back to the Crossroads to stay. No more work. No socializing. Not until Chamuco was dealt with.

“We have a mutual understanding, no?”

“Sure,” Grim replied smoothly, “We take care of the mess and you keep your hands clean.”

Salazar’s laugh was far too gleeful. “Ah, amigo, you will have some assistance. I’m sending one of my own.”

Grim frowned. “Who?”

“Angel.”

His own fucking nephew – Angel Mackenzie. Salazar wasn’t playing any more games.

Angel’s mother was Salazar’s only sister. She married a man who wasn’t Hispanic but his ties to the Cartel were strong. Didn’t stop Angel or his brother Gabriel from becoming the favorite of their uncle.

The last person we needed at the club was one of Salazar’s men. Angel was an arrogant cocksucker who demanded everything at his beck and call. I gave Grim a look and he shook his head.

“I’ll tolerate his presence for now, Salazar. Keep him in line. If he comes into the Crossroads, he needs to understand this is my club and my rules.”

“I understand you, Grim. Remember he is mi familia.” A gentle but clear warning.

“Good.”

The call ended and everyone at the table sat back, eyeing Grim and waiting for his next words.
