“Alice! Alice, wake up!”

Struggling against the hold on my upper arms, my eyes fluttered open as I was plunged back into cold reality. My lungs gasped and my chest squeezed for air as I tried to fight against the restraints. More chains. More ropes. I wasneverfree.

An angry wail escaped my lips.

“Alice, please, it’s Doctor Coburn. Please, calm down.”

He signaled to a nurse, and she tapped on a long sharp needle before aiming it straight at my body.

“No! Nooooo,” I groaned as the steel tip entered the flesh on my backside.

More drugs, more medication. Never ending alteration.

I didn’t want to live like that anymore. The semi-conscious state was all I knew for the last five years. How would I ever keep track of where I was going if I kept becoming lost?

Hours later. . .

“Shall we continue?”

“Please don’t make me,” I pleaded, vulnerable and partially ashamed for the show I knew was soon to follow.

“It’s the only way, Alice.”

My eyes narrowed on the Doctor, and that damn sexy smirk of his appeared on the handsome face that was beginning to haunt me as much as my past.

“I need you to trust me, Alice. This won’t work unless you trust me. Now go on, drink your tea, it will make you feel better.”

His voice lulled me into obeying his commands, and deep down in the recesses of my mind, I knew he was manipulating me somehow, yet I still let him. Picking up the porcelain cup, I drank deeply and allowed the jasmine to enter my body and dull my senses.

“That’s a good girl. Take me back home, Alice. Tell me more.”

Sadness lingers on the soul

As it dives deeper into Madness

Down the rabbit hole I go

Getting lost in its enchantment.

Light blue streaksof light filter through a crack in the wall of a far-off tunnel. The tunnel is engulfed in complete blackness except for that soft, pale blue light. The beams catch my eye and pull me in as they shimmer. My body glides along the floor as the faint rhythmic beat of music pulses through each muscle and organ in my body, luring me towards the entrance. I can feel a tug on my soul, a carnal and wild need to return to Wonderland and experience that same uninhibited pleasure again. I’m becoming addicted after only one night but it’s not enough. I wonder if it will ever be enough.

I needmore.

My fingers reach for a keycard access. There’s a swirling blue decal that shimmers like a wave of tranquil water. I notice the faded glimmer of a word that suddenly appears at the end of a tunnel -Serenity.

My thoughts immediately seek the promise of pleasure and excitement. With a swipe of my hand, a card appears out of thin air, gaining me access into another world. I pause as the tunnel opens and I hesitate. A large, bright azure moon is set above a calm sea and my eyes take in the massive beach. As I step through, the tunnel slowly closes behind me, a rock sliding into place to keep anyone who isn’t welcome from gaining entrance.

Unlike the crimson bedroom where everything shimmered with the carnal and red mist of sin, this place is the exact opposite. Black sands encompass the beach and my feet hover over the strange crystalline dust. Stepping down, the sand is soft as it seeps through my toes and a wave of calm overtakes me like the tide rising over the surface of the beach.

I follow its endless path, staring down at the glittering diamonds that form crystals and sparkle from the reflection of the moon. I’m so entranced that when I finally look up, I gasp to find myself in an oasis, surrounded by bright fuchsia colored flowers and towering mushrooms with large white trunks. Their accordion-like umbrellas fan over me as I’m pulled towards the thunderous sound of pounding water. Through the thick brush, I come to a clearing where the moon highlights one of the most beautiful grottos I’ve ever seen. A daring cascade of water drapes and crashes against the jaded basalt rocks below.

The sleek curves are slick with waves of every hue of blue as they cascade down like tranquil and inviting sheets of calming liquid. I walk in further until my feet wade through an inch of warm water while the deep pounding of the music I’d heard before coaxes my body to sway as I relax into the rhythm that connects with my slender frame. The soft mist of the water hits my face as it swirls upward, refreshing my heated flesh. The atmosphere is charged with energy but it’s slow and seductive, almost dizzying in intensity.

There’s a presence behind me and I know he’s here.
