When she parted her lips, he knew she wanted to accept him. When she moaned, he knew she wanted to believe she would never be alone again. He’d be damned if he didn’t make her believe it.

Gliding his lips up to her ear he whispered, “I’m here with you,Vioi.”

She didn’t respond with snide remark this time. Instead, she moaned. Her vulnerability was irresistible. He drove his lips down to hers again, his desire for her becoming uncontrollable. He pressed his body tightly against hers, needing to be closer, trapping her between him and the wall.

He wanted to give her no room to move, no choice but to accept that he was here with her and would be from now on.

The way she allowed her body to mold against his made him believe he might be convincing her.

If he had any control over his life, he’d will this moment to last forever.

But having control over his own life was impossible in Artem’s fortress. Hell, he couldn’t even control his emotions anymore.

I’m okay with not being able to control my emotions around her,he realized.

When Karina coughed somewhere behind him, he reluctantly forced himself to pull away from their kiss.

“Isn’t Artem waiting for us?” Karina innocently asked.

Artemwaswaiting for Eva.

“Fuck!”Dariuspunched the wall beside Eva. He hated that he had to bring her to Artem. What kind of hell was he living in?

Eva stood upright, pushing herself off the wall. “She’s right, Artem is waiting.” He rubbed his head in frustration, not wanting to hear that. Eva then surprised him by putting a gentle hand on his shoulder as if to relax him. Then, she gave him gave him an assured nod. “There’s nothing we can do. It’s fine.”

“It’s not fine. It’s not fucking fine. I did this to you. I brought you here. I’ll be damned if I don’t get you out of here alive. Right now, you need to stay alive.”

Eva’s eyes widened as if she didn’t expect to hear him say that. She opened her mouth a few times as if to speak, but ultimately said nothing.

He left her speechless.

Maybe she’d finally think about what he was telling her. “Don’t play games with him. Promise me that.”

“I…” She seemed to be at a loss for words, not knowing what to say. “I’m sorry.”

Dammit, she still wasn’t listening to him! She needed to listen! Artem would destroy her.

For the first time in his long existence, Darius felt more than fear toward Artem.

Finally, he was angry.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Eva Maas

Eva sucked in a breath, dread overwhelming her as she approached Artem. His revolting throne of bones remained atop a raised platform, allowing him to look over his subjects with a condemning eye.

This was the last place Eva wanted to be, but life never went the way anyone wanted it to, did it?

No, it didn’t.

Happily ever afters were bullshit.

She should at least be grateful that she was now walking in rather than being hauled in. Darius and Karina remained at her side, but they didn’t need to physically force her in. She was grateful for that bit of freedom.

Darius.

Their last conversation threw her off. He really seemed to regret what he did. Not only that, but he wanted to get to know Eva, asking her plenty of unexpected questions. It was so difficult to not break down and tell him everything about herself. She had no one to talk to before, so why couldn’t she with him?
