Jonah is even comfortable enough to kiss my cheek and show me affection. His moral standing cracks, and it takes me a bit not to push him. But I want to. I know he wants me to, but he won’t initiate things.

“Surprise, Scar! Happy birthday!” Familiar voices ring through the air, and I whip my attention to the huge balcony extending over the cliff side. The sunset lights everything in cotton candy colors, and I spot Emma, Sapphire, and Violet standing at a long table with balloons and confetti scattered across the top.

I turn to my pack with wide eyes. “What is this? I can’t believe you arranged this!”

“A special visit for our beautiful omega. Happy birthday, my beauty,” Jonah says, nudging me forward.

I squeal and stride across the balcony, opening my arms for my best friend and favorite sisters. It’s been a while since I’ve seen them, and I feel so loved that my mates arranged this for me, especially with the family drama.

“We’ve missed you, sis,” Violet says, pulling me into a hug. She kisses each of my cheeks and nuzzles her nose to mine. “When Ezra called, there was no way I could decline the invitation. I wish I could’ve managed to wrangle everyone, but you know how it goes. Jade is MIA as always. Cyan, Raven, and Amber are keeping Mom busy. They wish they could be here. How are you holding up? I heard about the fallout with Mom. Sapphire told me what happened.”

Sapphire pops out her bottom lip. “It’s even worse now. I couldn’t wait to get away.”

“You have no idea, but it is what it is.” I squeeze my eyes shut and shake my head, wanting nothing more than to push the thoughts away. “You know how Mom is. She’s mostly pissed off that she can’t get her way by throwing a tantrum with me anymore. I’m better now that I get to spend my birthday with you girls. How did you even manage?”

“The cunt doesn’t control me,” Emma says, rubbing her fingers through my hair. “I helped Ezra arrange a plan. We kidnapped Sapphire, disguising this as a pack-finding mission. It’s been fun.”

Sapphire laces her fingers through mine and tugs me closer. “Let’s not talk about Mama anymore tonight. I get enough of her at home. We don’t have a lot of time to spend, so I don’t want to waste another minute.”

Emma shakes me. I wasn’t sure I’d ever see my best friend again, and here she is, helping bring my sisters to me too. “She’s right. Let’s pretend that bitch doesn’t exist and celebrate your vagina liberation day.”

“You’re too much, Em,” Violet says, shaking her head.

“Be thankful I’m not related.” She sticks out her tongue, reminding me of a dozen times before. Emma was there when Violet and Jade ignored me at Omega Prep because I was their dorky, artsy little sister. I know Violet regrets it most, but I’ve forgiven her.

I laugh and hug my sisters again. The only thing that could be better than this as if all seven of us Steele sisters were together, but I’ll take what I can get. If Mom had it her way, we would probably never get to see each other again.

“You’re ridiculous, but I love you, princess,” I say to Sapphire.

“I love all of you.” Violet guides us toward the table. “Let’s have a drink, eat, and celebrate.”

I glance at my alphas. “This is the perfect birthday.”

Leo pulls me onto his lap. “For a perfect woman.”

“I wish you all didn’t have to go.” I stand near the limo my pack arranged to take everyone back to the airport. “I miss spending time with you.”

“Maybe you can elope in Vegas. It’s close enough for me to travel without issue. Stick it to the cunt,” Emma says, grinning. Her brown eyes sparkle in the string lights hanging from the trees.

I laugh and shrug my shoulders. “Just her reaction alone would be worth it.”

“Don’t worry about her or anyone else. Focus on you and your alphas. She’ll lose interest. I promise.” Violet caresses her knuckles to my cheek.

“She’s right. Cyan, Amber, Raven, and I will keep her busy.” Sapphire squeezes my hand. “You’re basically free now. I’m happy for you, by the way. We all are.”

I hug my sisters and Emma one last time, my heart happy apart from the shadow of sadness I push away as they climb into the limo and the driver shuts the door.

I don’t get more than a moment to pout before Dominic spins me toward him and dips me, dancing to the soft music coming from the Mermaid Lounge.

A bright flash of light pops from over Dominic’s shoulder, and I catch a figure with a camera sitting in the front seat of an old sedan.

“What the fuck?” Leo asks, his voice deepening.

Another camera flashes, stealing my vision with the blinding light, and two men laugh and snap more pictures. Dominic pulls me close, covering me with his jacket protectively. Ezra and Jonah straighten their backs, creating a wall.

“Dickasso! Smile for me, baby! I want to make this a birthday for you to remember!” The car door slams, and Chaz steps out, waving an expensive camera with a long lens. “It’ll go with the ones from Halloween. You know, these old asses don’t fuck you enough. Maybe they can’t get their dicks hard for you.”

I bristle, my chest tightening. This is another level of psycho. I thought he’d back off. My pack said they had stuff against him and his uncle that would keep him away.
