Fury snaps inside me, and instead of pitying myself, I get angry. Who is this asshole to say I’m dangerous? Unworthy? Who is he to define me based on something out of my control?

I close the space to Micah and surprise him by fisting the front of his shirt in my fingers. I shake him, trying to test his resolve, but he stands there without budging. Without blinking. The weight of his gaze penetrates my very being, stinging me like my body wants to repel him, but I’m too proud, too angry, too much of a glutton for this bullshit that I can’t—no, I won’t—back away.

“If you were going to kill me, you would’ve already!” I yell in his face, sucking in breath after breath of his dewy, crisp scent reminiscent of early morning fog in the winter. It hurts to breathe but I can’t stop myself.

“Raven...”

“Tell me the truth, Micah! Tell me why you’re stalking me. Why are you here? You’re cruel for putting me through this. I thought the devils were the ones who thrived on punishment, but it’s you and your righteous asshole attitude.” Jerking my arm, I slap him across the face, expecting the sky to open up to strike me with a lightning bolt as Heaven smites me.

Nothing happens.

Micah doesn’t flinch.

He doesn’t respond.

Before I have a chance to react, he reaches behind him and unveils his flaming sword from wherever the fuck he keeps it along with his now hidden wings. My heart stalls, and a wave of panic crashes over me. I shove him hard, my hands slamming into his rock-hard chest. Two hands lock around my waist from behind, and Dante swings me away. I fly through the air, clenching my jaw to stop another damn screech from escaping me. I skid across the dead grass not far from our apartment and nearly collide into the side wall.

Red fire cascades through the air, turning the dim night crimson. I shudder a breath in relief at the rumbling ground. Kase’s familiar monstrous form launches from the second-story apartment’s balcony and lands on top of Micah. Swinging his arm, Micah punches Kase in the side, sending tendrils of smoke through the air. Bright light flashes from his hands, and I shield my eyes at the glorious heavenly fire burning far more intensely than Kase’s hellish power.

“Stop!” I yell, pushing to my feet. “Don’t hurt him!”

My voice distracts Micah so much so that Dante grabs him by the wings and spits something that smolders over the white feathers, burning them. Micah hollers and spins, wielding his sword. Kase shoots fire at Micah from behind, trapping him in between him and Dante. A hurricane of emotions rages through me as if the light of my soul battles with the darkness of my deal with Lucian, and it makes my head spin.

I drop to my knees in agony, my body turning against itself as I watch Micah fight off Dante and Kase. If I don’t stop them, they’ll ruin everything. I can feel my soul swaying, trying to send me to Hell. The two devils are lost to the sins they embody, and each of them enhances each other, creating the perfect weapon to destroy Micah. If he gets blown into oblivion, all is lost for me. I know it. There are five angels who must fall. They must bow to a new kingdom.

Dante hooks his arms around Micah and pins him in place. “Kase will tear you to pieces for even raising your sword at Raven. She is under our protection, and we will not allow you to hurt her.”

Kase roars, standing up on his hind legs, his muscular body towering over everyone in his massive form. Whipping his tail, he lashes it across Micah’s chest, shredding the fabric of his shirt. Light emanates from his bronzy skin, the deep color sparkling with a metallic sheen. Micah grinds his teeth, but he doesn’t close his eyes. He faces Kase without fear.

And then I hear it. Micah’s soft plea to the Higher Power. “Accept my sacrifice for the greater good.”

Holy shit.

“Kase, stop! Don’t do it!” I yell, pushing on my feet. “Stop!”

I jump on his back and cling to him, grabbing onto the outer horns of the blunt, bone-like crown. He jerks his head back in surprise, I lose my hold and scratch my nails down his back, trying to hold on. I land on his tail, feeling the appendage slip over the sensitive skin between my legs as he tries to pull it free. The gesture startles me, the sensation sending tingles bursting over my clit, and I moan so embarrassingly loud that Kase and Dante both lose their focus on Micah.

Bending his knees, Micah launches into the air, lighting up the sky above us. My brain turns to mush, my hands gripping Kase’s tail as I try to stop him from pulling it out from under me. Who knew such a thing could bring me to the brink of an orgasm so quickly. If I had allowed him to tug the two feet left of his tail free, I’d be lying in the grass, arching my back, and screaming my pleasure out to the entire complex. I don’t even think the darkness protecting our place is enough to stifle my loud-ass mouth, fully prepared to get fucked by a damn demonic tail. What the actual fuck is wrong with me?

“You naughty, naughty pretty soul,” Dante says, striding closer. “You’re in so much trouble, giving the damn bastard some hellish intervention and using your sexy, sinful pussy to distract Kase to do so.”

Kase blazes with red fire in front of me, revealing his human façade. I remain on the ground, my knees bent, still clutching his damn tail like it’s my lifeline to save myself. Swiveling his torso, Kase peers at me, his eyes glowing red. Something dark, almost hungry, flickers in his expression, and I slowly ease myself off his tail without letting it go. I’m afraid of what he’ll do to me with it if I do—and not because I’m scared. I worry about how much I’ll like it.

Dante growls so lowly, I can feel the rumble of his voice over my skin. Grabbing the front of his jeans, he tugs the zipper down and pulls his massive cock out of his pants right in front of me.

“You’re making me so jealous of his damn tail, Raven. Come touch me and watch me grow just as long,” he quips, stepping closer. “Consider it your punishment for the angel.”

I raise my eyebrows at him. “Or you could just take over for me. Maybe Kase will stop looking like he plans to eat me at any second.”

I regret my words immediately, knowing exactly where both their minds wander.

“Not happening, angel-girl. What did we tell you? You once again broke our damn rule, so you know what that means?” Kase manages to curl his tail around me despite my hands clutching it. “You’re in a helluva lot of trouble. I hope your little adventure was worth it.”

Something mischievous lights Dante’s green eyes at Kase’s words, and the diamond shape of his pupils dilate wider. He shifts his eyes upward toward the roof of the building across from ours like he wants me to follow his line of sight. Without having to look, I know Micah hides just out of our sight. His soft glow gives him away. He isn’t hiding from me, which means Kase and Dante can see him too, and they want to mess with him.

I clear my throat, trying my best to ensure my voice comes out pleadingly. “I’m sorry. It won’t happen again. I know better now. I know the only thing he’ll ever do for me is ruin my eternity.”

“You’re lying to us, Raven,” Kase says, growling with his words. Damn it, does he sound convincing. “This is the second time he’s pulled his damn sword on you.”
