“What about Mr. Tavern? He would’ve fucking raped and killed me had Micah not intervened. You believe that you have my soul regardless, but rape? Are you fucking kidding me? That’s far beyond forgivable. I’ll not be put in that position again. I know you all struggle with right and wrong—”

Kase shoves his arms under me and scoops me up. I don’t have a chance to react before he plants his lips on mine, silencing me. I jerk away and slap him. My emotions run hot and all over the place as I replay the last few hours in my head over and over again. The scratch down my chest still hurts. The branding on my palm isn’t any better.

Tightening his jaw, Kase releases a low growl. “Raven, do you really think so little of us that we’d have allowed Tobias to get his dick anywhere near you? You knew that we were going to put you into a dangerous situation. You can’t blame us that Micah waited for you to suffer. If we had intervened first, he’d have never fought for you. This is a good thing. The pain is only temporary.”

This still feels so fucked up. He’s right about me knowing how dangerous it could be, but it’s still hard to process.

“And we plan to make it up to you,” Dante adds, moving in close. “We have a present.”

“A present? How will that help?” I shudder a breath.

“It’s our way of apologizing and rewarding you for the bullshit you had to do. I didn’t enjoy having to stand by and rely on fucking Micah.” Kase leans closer, his mouth hovering near mine. “Please forgive us.”

Is it messed up that I already do? Maybe. But I can’t just let them think I will be so easy. It’ll only make matters harder. They’ll think they can get away with pushing me around.

“No. I don’t think you understand. You can’t just apologize and expect me to be okay. Today was hard. Micah somehow thinks he can figure out how to save me and—”

Dante bellows a laugh and shakes Kase’s shoulders, grinning at me. “It won’t be long.”

“I told him it was pointless and to give up on me.” I frown with my words. Hearing them out loud makes me feel as if I might’ve went too far. Like I fucked up. I groan and rest my forehead to Kase’s shoulder, inhaling a breath of his warm, sweet scent. “Shit. I messed everything up, didn’t I?”

“Are you kidding me, angel-girl? That’s going to drive him wild.” Kase rocks me in his arms and bounces on his feet. “Like Dante said, it won’t be long.”

“Now, it’s time for your present. We’ve been waiting all day for this.” Dante shoves the ajar door open completely, slamming it into the wall with a bang. “I think this will help remind you of what we’re trying to accomplish. It’ll also make up for that tit-slit injury. I will cut the fucker any way you please.”

I grimace. “Huh?”

A deep sob answers me without Dante having to explain anything. Hanging from a brand new hook on the ceiling, Mr. Tavern flops like a fish on a line. He’s butt-ass naked with his clothes torn and piled on the floor in a rancid mess of...ew. I don’t even want to know.

I bury my nose in Kase’s shirt, trying to stop my stomach from roiling. “What the fuck,” I whisper, trying to look anywhere besides the man, but it’s like I can’t help it. I can only manage to keep my eyes averted for seconds at a time.

“Surprise!” Kase says, his voice rising with his excitement. “Look at this weak asshole now. To think I thought he was a tough guy.”

“Far from it.” Dante swings the door closed and rubs his hands together, strolling ahead of us. “He’s so scared he shit and pissed himself. Twice.” Circling the man, Dante shakes his head in disgust. “This is how much we enjoy having you around, Raven. We put up with this so you could enjoy his punishment too.”

“Which is your choice, angel-girl. Tell us what you feel is appropriate for his wrongdoings. You’re not his only victim. The fucker made a deal with Hell to keep his mortal freedom in exchange for his soul.” Kase yanks me from him, not allowing me to cling onto him for dear life. Setting me on my feet, he spins me around to face Mr. Tavern. Kase wraps his warm arms around me from behind and presses his lips to my earlobe. “He was allotted ten more victims for the rest of his life. Just a little extra something to dirty his already vile soul the way Lucian likes.”

My heart sinks into my stomach. “You let him hurt ten people? That’s horrible.”

“He went through them in...how long was it, Tobias? A year? Six months?” Dante stops in front of Mr. Tavern and grabs him by the chin, turning him into a blubbery mess. “Tell my pretty soul the truth. You don’t want me to rip it from you.”

“Two w-weeks,” Mr. Tavern stutters.

My eyes widen at the thought. He’s hurt ten people in two weeks. He hurt me. This fucker is more disgusting and vile than I could ever imagine.

“Please, I’ll do anything. Tell me what you want,” he adds, jerking his arms, trying to tug the ropes down.

Dante swivels his torso and smirks at me. “Do you hear that, Raven? He wants another deal. What do you think? He could be useful.”

Anger explodes through me, and I clench my fingers into fists, ignoring the searing pain of my nails biting into the brand from Micah’s wings. “No. You guys should’ve never bartered with him to begin with.”

Turning back to the man, Dante jerks his hand and grabs him by the throat. “See what you’ve done? My pretty soul is angry you enticed us with a deal to begin with. Now she might never let me fuck her brains out.”

“Please! I’m sorry. Please!” Mr. Tavern hollers, fighting the restraints. “I’ll do anything. Just give me more time. I can be of use to you.”

Dante sighs dramatically and slides his fingers through his dark hair. “He makes such a convincing argument, doesn’t he?” Twisting on his feet, he glances at us again. “He’ll do anything for us.”

“The options are endless,” Kase murmurs, brushing his lips to my neck.
