I don’t even react.

I couldn’t care less.

Without cleaning off the blood, Dante returns to the bed and wraps me in his arms. “I told you I’d protect you, my pretty soul. Now try to sleep. There will be more assholes coming, so let me cuddle you while I can.”

I sigh in contentment, my mind still spinning, the stars still dancing. “You promise to kill them all?”

He chuckles. “I’ll hide the bodies. When the venom of my bite wears off, you might see things differently.”

I laugh and kiss him, snuggling close. “Hopefully not, my psychotic devil. I want to know you will always protect me.”

He chuckles and cups my face, capturing me in his gaze. “Always and forever. You’re mine and Kase’s soul. No one else can have you.”

Chapter 19

Fight like Hell

RAVEN

I STARE IN shock at Dante mopping the blood from the floor next to several full black trash bags. If he knows I’m awake, he ignores me. Bright sunlight beams in through the front window, and it takes me a few seconds to realize I’m no longer in Dante’s bed. But I’m still naked apart from the bloody sheet wrapped around me.

Sitting up, I wince at the ache between my legs. The sensation shoots tingles right to my clit, reminding me of the crazy time I had with Dante last night. I shift the sheet and stare at the spot on my thigh, stinging slightly with my movement. The bite, which looks similar to one from a snake, glows an eerie red like light seeps out from my skin. I carefully caress my finger around Dante’s tender mark and gasp, triggering an orgasm out of nowhere. I slap my hand over my mouth as I moan and hang my head.

“Good morning, pretty soul. It sounds like my mark is working as I had hoped. It’s better than anything anyone else can give you.” Dante props the mop against the door and strolls across the living room to me. “How’s your head? Sometimes my bite can make a mortal feel hungover.”

I rub the heels of my hands into my eyes. “I’m...great. Just disoriented. Why am I on the couch?”

“I told you I’d hide the bodies, and until Kase gets back, the only place to keep them is in my room.” He says it so matter-of-factly that his words barely manage to register with me. “You don’t have to worry, though. I promised I would keep you safe, and I am. They were all just a bunch of moronic flesh bags filled with false ideas of protection from their demon keepers. The fuckers can’t come in here and face me, so they sent their contracted mortals.”

Now I remember exactly what happened. Some assholes interrupt my cuddling session with Dante after he gave me the best orgasm of my life with his bite—a bite that also got me a bit high. The intruders also ruined any chance of getting him to fuck my brains out like I wanted because he was surprisingly considerate and didn’t want to take advantage of my lowered inhibitions.

I grab his hand and pull him onto the couch beside me, surprising him by climbing onto his lap to straddle him. His fingers tighten around my hips, and he kisses me with hot passion, awakening my body all over again. Reaching between us, I rub my palm across the bulge pressing hard against his pants like at any second, his cock will penetrate through the fabric. He moans and slides his tongue into my mouth, deepening my kiss while helping me with his button.

“Help! My liege! Help!” The loud wail of a man explodes through the air. “Ouch, shit. What the fuck. Oh, God!”

I whip my attention toward the bloody man in the hallway, clutching his gut. Growling, Dante lifts me up with him only to set me down on the couch. The guy shouts and stumbles back, lifting his arms in the process. His bloody dress shirt bulges before something slides out from the crack between buttons.

“Damn it. I just cleaned this shit up.” Dante jogs toward the man, scooping up a trash bag from the pile on the floor. “Here, aim for the bag.”

My stomach flips as Dante holds the bag out and whacks the guy on his back, sending his insides bursting through his shirt. I can’t believe what I’m seeing or how Dante just folds the guy in half with his super strength and shoves him into the trash bag.

“What the fuck,” I mutter, rubbing my eyes. I expect the disgusting madness to vanish, but Dante continues cleaning up innards off the floor. “How was that guy even alive?”

Dante swipes a bloody hand across his forehead. “Demon deals. Half of these assholes asked to cheat death...but it only works once. This guy must’ve not included anything about body damage. Serves the bastard right. You have no idea how much I want to fuck you.”

I can’t stomach looking at the gore like I could last night. I have to tip my head toward the ceiling to get my body to chill out enough to speak again. “Sorry. He killed my mood. That was the grossest thing I’ve ever seen, and now you’re covered in blood.”

“Oh, come on, pretty soul. You were fine with it last night. You wouldn’t even let me give you a clean sheet.” His soft footsteps thump across the floor as he returns to me. “Do you remember what you said?”

I groan. “I’m keeping it forever to remind myself of how sexy you were protecting me.” The memory ping-pongs through my mind, but it doesn’t feel like it belongs to me and more like I had an out-of-body experience and watched some crazy-ass monster possess me, cheering on Dante as he slaughtered at least ten people who were trying to abduct me.

He chuckles. “You were hysterical. Usually people freak out and hallucinate seeing Hell, but you were my perfect cheerleader. Next time I want to see you in a tiny pleated skirt.”

“There isn’t going to be a next time,” I argue, pulling the sheet tighter around me. “I don’t want to desensitize myself toward dismemberment or end up relating it to pleasure. My body is so confused right now. I’m so turned on but a bit sick. This isn’t how I wanted to start my morning.”

“Afternoon,” he corrects, smirking at me. “You were on one helluva high until dawn.”

My brows pucker in confusion. “Afternoon? Shit. Where is Kase? Shouldn’t he be here already?”
