“Don’t speak or call for your devil and I won’t sink my blade into your back,” Cassius mutters, keeping his rumbly voice just about a whisper. “I need to know what you are up to with Andre.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I try to stay calm, speaking into his hand. If I didn’t feel the sharp tip of his blade on my lower back, I’d scream for help.

“Did you ask him to save your soul?” he asks, ignoring my comment. “What is your plan? You know you are far from redemption.”

“Cass, let her go.” Andre lands with a thump on the balcony, his wings flapping with glorious light. “If you have questions, you need to ask me.”

“But you withhold information!” Cassius shouts.

A low hiss sounds through the air, and I jerk my head back, clocking Cassius in the chin. Hooking his arm around my waist, he launches into the air, not giving Dante the chance to make it to the door. Thrashing in Cassius’s arms, I fight as hard as I can. I know if he kidnaps me, I might never see my devils in this life. He will ensure I fail my mission and turn into a demonic slave.

“Let me go, asshole!” I scream, feeling behind me until I manage to grab his junk. It’s squishy and soft, totally vulnerable, and I will inflict a world of agony on his cock.

Cassius grunts, loosening his hold on me. My mission to inflict pain doesn’t work, so I go for Plan B. I stroke my hand over his groin and fake a moan, trying to get his body to react to mine. His shaft hardens, surprising the fuck out of him, and he drops me. I scream as I freefall. A loud crack sounds through the air. Hot air blows from beneath me, warming the wind stinging my skin. I flail, stretching my arms for Dante as he spits venom at Cassius trying to catch me.

“Grab her!” Cassius commands, but I can’t see anything but bright light.

And then fire.

The gates of Hell open under me, and I wonder if I died without knowing it.

I can’t get myself to scream or fight. All I do is brace for eternal punishment. But it doesn’t come. Warm, muscular arms catch me, stopping my fall. Jerking his hand out, Micah throws orange fire at Cassius, engulfing him in hellfire. Andre intercepts Dante’s attack, locking his arms around his smiting brethren, launching the two of them higher in the sky.

I expect Dante to chase them, but he lands beside us. He tries to take me from Micah, but Micah growls.

“Give her to me. Now,” Dante commands, his eyes glowing green.

“After you were nearly the cause for Hell’s downfall? No. You can wait until I’m ready to give her up.” Micah proves his point by stepping forward and out of a summoning circle drawn in blood on a concrete platform. “Now show me to my living quarters.”

“Micah,” I whisper, my mind, body, and soul whirling in confusion. “You can’t just steal me from Dante. This is our time together.”

He glowers but doesn’t let me down. “Try me, heathen. I saved your soul. I deserve your immediate time.”

I glance at Dante. “But—”

Micah touches my chin, pulling my attention to him. “Stop acting like my presence is unwanted, Raven. You and I both know how much you’ve missed me.”

I don’t know how to respond. I don’t even recognize him in this moment.

But I guess it doesn’t matter, because I’ve only truly known him as an angel. Now, it’s time I face him as this devil. I need to find out just what kind of monster I created. Maybe then, I can figure out what happens next. Or how to save my soul from him.

Micah smiles at me. “I’m ready to make you mine.”

Chapter 14

Hell’s Newest Ruler

MICAH

I CAN’T TAKE my eyes off Raven’s shining soul as she sits beside what should be her biggest regret. Elias sinks into the couch and tips his head toward the ceiling. Apparently, I overestimated Raven’s bond toward me, because she hasn’t looked at me or said a word since I stole her from Dante and interrupted his night of ravishing her body in ways I’ve thought about every second since abandoning her after she asked for help and instead I gave her access to my kingdom in Hell.

“You might be her mortal soul keepers, but my mark is on her body and the contract with Lucian. I will take what belongs to me if you want to see her succeed,” I say, crossing my arms over my chest. I went through Hell to prove to Lucian that Raven should belong to me, including offering my allegiance and souls I procure while in the Mortal Realm. Will Raven hate me for it? Maybe. But I can’t lose her and I can’t trust Kase and Dante to ensure she completes the task. “You two can take the opportunity to fix the mistakes Elias has made. I will guard them. My connection to Hell still remains strong.”

“Which is why you should go with Kase,” Dante mutters, his fangs peeking from beneath his lip. “Prove to us that you’re capable of handling the Mortal Realm as a devil. You might think you’re some powerful son-of-a-bastard, Micah, but your grace still lingers.”

“It has not. Fire courses through my veins.” I summon orange hellfire between my palms.

Kase growls and whips his tail around my wrists, tugging them over my head. I roar and thrash, annoyance courses through me. It only makes him smile wider and lift me an inch from the ground. It takes everything in me not to reveal my devil body, open a portal to Hell, and shove him in it for testing me in front of Raven. He might be wrath, but I hold on to my angelic vengeance against him.
