“Heathen, what happened? I don’t understand. I know that the devils were sent here without you. I was trying to locate you, but the hotel was surrounded. And then you just summoned me, but instead of pulling me through a portal, you fell through. Where were you? How did you get away?” Micah asks so many questions, but my brain can’t catch up as I think about Elias on the other side of the portal. Just the thought of falling away from him freaks me out. What if I can’t find him again?

“You have to take me back. I was just trying to call for you guys, not come here. Please, Elias is up there.” My voice rises with my panic. “If they find him, they’ll take him to Heaven.”

Micah frowns, his beautiful brown eyes glowing orange with his power. “I’m not sure I’m following—”

“Take me back! Now!” I hook my fingers to his shoulders as if I can hoist myself up and somehow get back through the shimmering portal above.

Growling under his breath, Micah shoots hellfire around us and the world shimmers, and I find myself within a giant ring of hellfire. Blinding light rips in my vision and steals some of my senses away. I throw myself from Micah’s arms. I can’t help it. I know that Elias can’t go into the Hell circle, and I need to find him. What if he’s already gone? He moves a lot slower in the Mortal Realm.

“Raven, fuck!” Elias calls, his cool hands grabbing me by the wrist and yanking me toward him.

“Don’t touch her,” Micah snaps, and his snarl reverberates through my bones. “I’ll drag your ass to Hell. Release her now.”

My body suddenly goes from hot to cold and then to hot again, and fire and heavenly light blaze over each of my arms, the unexpected power radiating from deep in my soul. I can’t do anything except shake my hands and send it spilling across the grass. But then Elias pulls me even closer and envelops me in his arms.

“This was a mistake. Something feels off. I don’t think you should be near him,” Elias says, tightening his arms around me.

“What?” I ask, my whole body tightening with anxiety. I don’t understand. What does he mean by he doesn’t think I should be near Micah?

Elias doesn’t get a chance to respond, because Micah throws a dagger, sinking it into Elias’s stomach.

I scream as Elias hits his knees.

All I can think about is how his temporary mortal body could die. I might lose him all over again. What will happen now?

I’m afraid that Heaven can steal him from me. If that happens, all will be lost. Heaven will have won.

Chapter 12

MICAH

Drag Him to Hell

“NO! OH, FUCK! Elias, hold on.” Raven kneels next to the bastard angel, pressing her fingers around the sharp edges of the blade I chucked at him.

Did she just call him Elias? I don’t understand.

“Micah, what do I do? He can’t die. He possesses this body. If he loses it...I don’t fucking know. Help me. What do I do?” Raven sobs with her words, trying to stop the bleeding and light from seeping from the man’s wounds. Not just a man. Elias. Elias possessing a mortal in his angelic form. Now that I can focus, I don’t want to murder the bastard for trying to steal Raven from me. I can see the truth in her words. It is Elias. He did not go through another cycle. He’s here, and he found her. But he’s an angel. He’s a heavenly being, yet I can see a chain of darkness sneaking from Raven and tethering to him.

“Can you bring him here?” I ask, curling and uncurling my fingers.

I keep my gaze locked on Elias, focusing on his essence. It’s strange because he looks like he had as a mortal. He kept his soul, yet he carries Heaven’s light. I can even see good grace coursing from his back and sprawling out on the grass with his invisible wings.

“Raven, don’t. Please. He’s going to try to drag me to Hell. Being so close to the portal already hurts me so deeply.” Elias groans and rests his hands on top of Raven’s.

“Elias, your body could die. Micah could help you. Maybe this is how it was supposed to be. What if you can take your throne now?” Raven bites her bottom lip between her teeth, her expression tight and pinched together with her fear and pain. It’s not physical pain, but I know she can feel the agony Elias experiences in this moment.

“I can’t. Please, I don’t want a throne in Hell. I just want you and me. I want to be how it was supposed to before the saviors forced our hands. We were supposed to be together like this always. I can see more clearly now.” Elias’s chest rises and falls with his panting breath. “If I die in this body, it won’t be forever. I will—”

“No. I watched you die once. I’m not doing that again.” Raven thrashes her head, whipping her black hair back and forth. “I’m taking you to Hell. I’m not letting that pure angelic light fuck with our future. You’re mine, and the rest of the devils are mine, and this is going to be our eternity. Don’t fight me.”

I didn’t know that I could love her even more than I do at this moment. She will not stand down and let Elias’s halo blind him.

“Darlin’, please,” Elias begs, removing the blade from his stomach. “You have to trust me.”

“I do trust you. But you’re going to fucking trust me right now. Now brace yourself. This might hurt.” Raven uses her Hell strength and drags Elias toward me by his wrists.

Screaming, Elias thrashes and flaps his wings, but Raven’s determination doesn’t allow him to break free. She’s so sexy and strong as hell, and I kind of wish she would manhandle me like that sometime. I had no idea I’d want her to, but seeing her with Elias like that? I miss them both. It feels like it’s been years, even though I know it’s only been a day since I’ve seen my beautiful soul.
