“A parting gift from my beloved sister,” Lawrence mutters, keeping a couple of feet of space between the man and himself. He doesn’t join the others as they create a circle around me like I’m the most exquisite meal they’ve ever had lie in front of them.

Another man clears his throat, placing his hands on my thigh and digging his nails in as if he wants to see my reaction. I tense my body but don’t react to the pain. That’s what he wants. I won’t give him the satisfaction of knowing he hurts me. Letting him drink my blood is already bad enough.

“At least she was good for something. The traitor. I’m surprised you even managed to survive the trip to La Vega.” The vampire bends over, flashing his fangs. Sinking his teeth into me, he takes the first bite and sucks my blood.

I flick my gaze up and stare at Sawyer, his whole body rigid as if it takes all of his control not to launch at the vampire and tear him apart. He realizes I watch him and gazes into my eyes, locking me in a silent stare.

He manages to open my mind with a whisper under his breath, and he commands me to only think about him in this moment.

“It was easy enough. It seems there is a bit of weakness in the leadership. Some of the lower covens plan to rebel. Those who are even less have also banded together, and it won’t be long before they overthrow the leadership.” Lawrence comes closer and shadows over me, getting next to Sawyer. “That is if things go according to plan. Isn’t that right, Mr. Noble? You see, gentlemen, my newest headliner, Carnage King, is the leader of the Bella Crew. He has the numbers to really shake things up.”

Another vampire bites into me, drinking my blood, acting as if I’m nothing but a blood bag for him. Small mercies. I’d prefer this over him considering me his plaything. “Interesting. We should talk sometime, Lawrence. Do you know I have a few allies within the city limits? Not enough to make a dent, but enough to assist.”

Lawrence hums under his breath. “Perhaps. I would need more details and Mr. Noble’s opinion. He’s the greatest threat to the leadership, which is why he’s here. Alexander has a deal with him, but because of how smart a man Mr. Noble is, he came here to make a deal with me to cross the bastard.”

Sawyer rests his hands on my shoulders. “I’m not interested in bowing to Alexander. I see a great opportunity with Lawrence.”

My heart sinks into my stomach at even a thought, but I know Sawyer has a different plan. I just can’t really think beyond this moment and how it makes me feel with him agreeing with Lawrence after everything.

“And Lawrence? What of us? You brought us here for a reason.” The last man says, finally speaking up for the first time. He doesn’t wait for Lawrence to respond and grabs my arm, yanking my wrist to his lips to bite me. He sucks slowly, groaning deep in his throat, his body awakening right next to me, so I can feel his boner touch my side.

I try not to react, but I shift enough as to not feel it.

“That all depends. If you want an alliance and the chance to help me take power, I’m going to need something from you.” Lawrence smiles with his words. “I’m going to need you to prove your worth.”

“And how would you prefer that? Would you accept a percentage of my donors?” the first man asks.

“No. I have something more useful in mind. There is supposed to be a meeting happening between me and Alexander. He believes we can somehow negotiate through the differences we have involving this particular donor. I want you to go with the Bella Crew and bring something more valuable to me. I want more of his performers.”

My heart races at the thought of Lawrence getting his hands on any of the Gemstones from Vampire Nights.

“And how do you expect us to do that?” the man who bit me on my thigh asks. “I’m sure he keeps them under lock and key in his hotel.”

“You’ll figure out a way. Perhaps Mr. Noble can help you.” He reaches down and grabs my chin, forcing me to look at him. “Maybe even this beautiful dhampir.”

My mouth opens and closes at his words.

He told me how imperative it was for my existence to remain a secret, yet here he is sharing it with three vampires that could very well try to do something crazy.

The three men fall silent. Sawyer grabs Lawrence’s wrist and forces his hand off me. He growls deep in his throat and flashes his fangs.

“You will keep Hayley out of it. It will be me and me alone.” Sawyer smacks his hands on the table, the strength of his hand shaking me to my core.

“We shall see, Mr. Noble. But first, help yourselves, gentlemen. Let her blood be an incentive. There can be more where that came from. All you have to do is bow to me.” Lawrence straightens his shoulders and steps back, giving them room. “Bow to me and prove your alliance to The Whiskey.”

I stare in shock as the three vampires kneel before him. I can’t believe he wants more than just La Vega. He wants the dancers.

He wants to be Alexander.

There are already enough monsters in the world.

I can’t let this happen.

Lawrence must die.
