Mya claps her hands and jumps from Govan’s arms, catapulting a few feet to Tatum. Govan doesn’t let her get too far out of reach, considering she’s still human, but Tatum is the last person he has to worry about.
“Hell yeah! Let’s go fuck some guys up.” Mya grins with her words, her twisted smile shining with determination. I’ve never thought Mya was much of a fighter, but I think she can embrace any role she chooses. She spent years as a Gemstone and a doll, doing as she was told, and she is much like Hayley was, being able to act and truly get into a role. She will encompass the badass woman I know she can be. I’ve seen it. Her and Hayley are friends for a reason, and I know that they will do whatever it takes to protect each other. Mya asking to be transformed proves it. Hayley begging for the same of her friend solidifies it completely. If Hayley could transform, we would do the same for her. So allowing her best friend to have an eternity with us despite the laws of La Vega and the leadership is the least we can do. It’ll show Alexander just how far he’s fallen. These donors are not his possessions. There are no one’s possessions...as it should be.
“I’m going to ask you all one more time without Tatum’s influence. Do you all agree to share the responsibility of bringing in a donor as a vampire. You know the rules of La Vega and how breaking the law can affect things.” Sawyer straightens his back, puffing out his chest, towering over everyone. “But you also know that things are changing. We’re going to start the change. We need to show those bastards they can’t control us. We’re not beneath them.”
“Fuck yeah! Screw the leadership. Fuck their laws. Let’s bring in another member to our crew.” Scottsdale claps his hands, rubbing them together with a grin on his face.
“That’s what I’m talking about!” Tatum shouts.
“Hell yeah! I’m ready. I’m ready to be an official member of the Bella Crew. I swear my loyalty to you guys. I will do whatever it takes to ensure this hotel stays safe and that the leadership and the fucking bastard Alexander can’t do shit about it.” Mya jumps up and hugs Govan, letting him pick her up off the feet.
Hayley squirms until I put her down, and she hugs Mya, squishing her to Govan. Sawyer rolls his shoulders and cracks his neck, closing the space to them. Looks like he’s just going to get right to biting her. Unlike with vampire covens, we don’t need some fancy ceremony. All we need is each other.
“With Mya’s loyalty, I welcome our newest member to the Bella Crew. Please hold out your arm and brace yourself. This shit’s going to hurt.” Sawyer extends his fangs, letting them protrude as far as they can possibly go to trigger his venom. “But with this bite will come power. It’ll come with a great eternity and will be worth it. As part of the Bella Crew, I promise our protection and our strength. We are a family here, and I am happy to welcome you as one of us.”
Mya takes a deep breath and holds out her arm to Sawyer, remaining in Govan’s embrace.
Hayley kisses her friend’s cheek. “You are the strongest, bravest person I know. I’m here for you no matter what. Forever.”
“Best friends forever and always,” Mya says, hugging Hayley one more time.
Sliding his fingers through Hayley’s, Sawyer pulls her close, letting her stand beside him as he bites Mya’s arm, injecting her with venom.
A soft cry escapes Mya’s mouth, but Govan relocates her so quickly that no one can see her reaction. I haven’t seen a vampire transform in a long time, but I know she’s going to be in agony for at least a couple hours. Maybe longer. As long as the venom takes, her body will change and destroy the human part of her.
I just hope it doesn’t change her completely. You never know.
“I should go with her.” Hayley says, pouting out her bottom lip. “I hadn’t realized this was going to happen so quickly.”
Sawyer shakes his head and looks to me. “We have only hours. It had to be now. We couldn’t risk not getting the chance again.”
“Plus, you’re not getting within a foot of her until she gets her fill of blood. She’s going to be a wild one for sure.” Monroe wraps his arms around Hayley from behind. “We need you to come with us, anyway. You know we don’t let you leave our side, and we need to submit the application to the leadership.”
Hayley’s eyes widen. “What? I have to go with you in person? Do you think that’s a good idea?”
“Absolutely not, but we don’t have a choice. We must apply as a coven. It’ll be the four of us plus Tatum and Walcott. Govan has chosen to remain unlisted for Mya. He will not take the name unless she can, so there’s no one else to stay with you.” Sawyer glances at me. “We’re going to be fine. Anyone who tries to start shit will be denied a position, including current power holders. This was the only way to stop the whole city from imploding.”
“I don’t like this.” Hayley sighs, pouting even more.
I rest my hand on her shoulder. “I don’t either, but we will get through it. It’ll give me a chance to get a couple extra things for us as well. You don’t have to face the leaders. We just need to sign the paperwork in person and have Sawyer deliver it with the fees.”
“Consider this a temporary truce. The leadership knows they’re failing, and they won’t jeopardize anything else. If they try…we’ll handle it. They are exposing themselves.” Monroe joins my side.
Cooper finishes off our cage around her. “Monroe is right. They’re sweating, my showgirl. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
He’s right about that. This might be the first time since The Divide that the authority of a territory has been threatened. It’ll also be the first time one is taken down.
These bastards will beg for mercy, but my mercy only lies with those who deserve it.
They will only get the punishment they deserve.
“Are you sure you don’t want one of us to stay?” I ask, holding Hayley in my arms. There’s no way I’m letting her on her feet. I’m not giving any fucker the opportunity to try to snatch her from me.
“What? Am I not good enough to protect our coven head?” Walcott cracks his knuckles, flashing his fangs at me.
“I’m talking about for after your ass gets handed to you because you are too hotheaded and might snap before the application is even submitted.” I meet his fangs with my own, raising my eyebrow with my comment.
He growls.
