Alexander will not take anything more from me. He will only give me one thing. His heart. He will not be taking mine through the Bella Crew.

His life ends here.

His rule and reign will fall now.

My voice screeches as I snarl and snap my teeth, my soul and body colliding once more and I cling onto Alexander’s back and sink my teeth into his throat. It’s the distraction that Sawyer needs to slam his forehead to Alexander’s, knocking him away. Monroe crawls from his spot and grabs a hold of Sawyer, dragging him back. Knox blurs toward me, stopping short to grab Cooper by the back of the shirt to haul them away.

And then Kylie cries, her voice growing louder and louder. She’s not crying out of pain. She’s not crying from despair because this shit happens around her. She is crying for me.

She knows the Bella Crew needs me. She knows that I will always protect her.

She knows that I will make a brighter, peaceful future for her and our family.

“Hayley!” Alexander yells, spinning around, throwing me off him.

He races toward me, using his vampire speed and strength, grabbing me by the hair again to lift me off my feet.

He flashes his fangs with a smile, his egotistical, conceited attitude now his downfall. He doesn’t see Knox kill his coven brother. He doesn’t smell the blood splashing across the hall behind him. He’s too focused locking his gaze to mine.

And I stare right back at him, our wills battling it out. I can’t seem to weaken him with my gaze, my power fleeting. Pain bursts behind my eyes, and I gasp as my muscles relax.

But then Alexander’s eyes widen.

He snaps his attention away from me.

It’s all I need.

Locking his arms around Alexander, Knox restrains him in place. The Bella Crew stands behind him, ensuring that he can’t get away.

Fear lines Alexander’s eyes, and I savor this moment. He realizes his mistake. He is not more powerful than me. He’s no more powerful than the Bella Crew. He’s a weak, pathetic man, and now I will feast on his heart. I will feast on the pain he put me through. I will take this moment and use it to rise.

Fisting my hand, I swing my arm out and punch Alexander in the chest, breaking his sternum. Blood seeps from the wound and I lock my fingers to his heart, counting the thuds of his erratic heartbeats.

He opens and closes his mouth in a silent scream, his fear igniting my best side even more. I yank my arm back and pull his heart free, bringing it to my lips to lick his blood one final time.

And then Knox takes his head. Monroe and Cooper take his arms. And Sawyer sets him on fire, burning him as if we bring the sun into the building.

I release a breath, my body relaxing and my nerves finally unwinding. Kylie cries, her whimper drawing my attention to her as the light of Alexander’s burning body casts shadows across her cheeks, haloing her in a way that turns her in to the most breathtaking sight I’ve ever seen.

She is so utterly beautiful. And I know one day, she will be even more powerful than I am. She will lead a future perfect for humanity and for vampires. With her birth, I know we will find peace. She’s already brought so much to us.

And I will do whatever it takes to see her thrive.

I will give her my strength. I will give her my power.

She will be everything the world needs. She is everything I need. Everything my guys could’ve ever wanted.

La Vega is ours.

The future has never seemed so bright.

A beautiful day and night will come from this wreckage. Only from the ashes can we rise.

We are finally free.
