If that happens...

“The ruler of Sloth. You’re exactly who we need. You have more reason than any of the forsaken. Show the others that you are willing to bow. If you bow, we will end this now.” Mikail’s voice booms through the air, igniting rage inside me.

I unsheathe a sword, spinning around to face him. I catch sight of the devils surrounded, the angelic army trapping them with heavenly light and using the souls to cage them in, their skin burning and blistering.

“Elias, grab him! Get Raven’s soul. He can break through.” Kase’s voice echoes through the air, and I jerk my head up, watching as Elias spins above me, blasting heavenly light at the dozens of angels chasing him.

Summoning power, I chuck it at those following him before manifesting a throwing knife and jerking my arm out, sinking it into Mikail before he has a chance to even charge me. Transforming into my devil form, I buck on two legs and spin, kicking my back hooves out and knocking Mikail into some of the angels trapping the other devils in the heavenly circle.

It’s enough for Lucian to whip his chain, knocking another two out of the way. It’s all they need to break the circle. Without having to protect themselves from the agony of heavenly light, the devils can summon more power to fight.

“Zade, give me your hand!” Elias shouts, diving toward me.

I stretch my arm up, using my towering height as a devil to give me an advantage. The second his hand wraps around my wrist, I transform back into my human façade. He throws me into the air, catching me by my waist, and I throw more power, clearing a path for him. Hell power hurts the angels more than getting blasted with heavenly light that simply shoves some of them out of the way. But my power can drop them like the bugs they are.

“Go back to Raven. She needs you!” I shout, bellowing through the air, hoping that the devils hear me below. “They’re coming. We will get her soul.”

“She belongs to Heaven!” Mikail yells, gathering the angels below us. They call upon the souls of the plane, turning the world brilliant white with heavenly light.

My skin sets ablaze, and Elias hollers as I burn his arms, his body not immune to the hellfire created by the pure souls.

“Push through. We have to get her soul back.” I shield my face with my hands, sending a silent prayer to the Almighty, hoping that this isn’t it. This can’t be how things end. The Higher Power would not bring Raven to us only to rip her away so suddenly.

Something tugs at my very core, and I gasp, losing my breath.

“We’re being summoned.” Elias’s voice rises in pitch, his fear crashing into me as if it’s my own. I can feel Raven as well. And something else. Something unexplainable.

“Resist it,” I say, grinding my teeth. “Her soul can’t be far.”

Elias doesn’t get a chance to respond to me. The plane shifts and dark fissures crack through the air. It’s not Heaven or Hell calling us. It’s not even Raven.

It’s the twins. I can sense it on a deep-seated level, feeling the energy and power they carry.

“No! Stop!” I shout, my voice ringing through the air. “Stop!”

Raven’s sobs call out, and my vision restores. I find myself in the middle of a brand-new summoning circle next to the one Micah stands in. And I’m not alone. Everyone is here with me. There is no one left in Heaven to get Raven’s soul.

“We have to go back,” I say, spinning around. “Raven, you have to send us back. The twins—”

“Baby B is crowning!” the doctor shouts, turning my body cold for the first time in what feels like forever.

It’s too late.

We have failed.

Chapter 18

RAVEN

Destiny

THE PURE LIGHT in my vision fades, and I find myself sitting in a rocking chair in the nursery the devils designed just for our family. A smile crosses my face, and I rock back-and-forth, staring at the two bundles in the bassinets in front of me. I can’t believe I’m here with my babies. I don’t know what happened, but one second, I was screaming in pain, praying to the universe to give me the strength to make it through, and then in the next, I’m here. Peace fills every inch of me, and I push to my feet.

“Have you thought of any names yet, angel-girl?” Kase appears next to me, the warmth of his skin crawling over the coolness of mine. Draping his arm over my shoulders, he stands beside me and stares at the brilliant light shining from the bassinet with the lavender blanket of my own little angel girl. She shines so brightly that I can’t see her features, but I don’t mind. I don’t need to see her to feel the love and power radiating from her, blessing me in a way that I never knew possible. Not since Elias had given me his light. Now she carries it for me.

“I was thinking Arabella.” A soft smile crosses my lips, the name just coming to me as if she picked it herself. And maybe she had. I never knew I needed her as much as I realize this moment. She truly is my answered prayer.

“It’s perfect.” Dante’s voice comes from my other side as he materializes next to the bassinet full of shadows, surrounding the emerald-green blanket of our little hellion boy. He and Kase were right about the baby being male, and they are so fucking proud of themselves, though I know Arabella already has them wrapped around her little finger.
