“Fuck, Raven.” Elias takes Mateo from my arms and hands him to Andre.

Gathering heavenly light in his palms, he sends the beams over my skin, the sensation enough to wash away the blistering agony threatening to send me to my stomach.

“Destroy him!” Lucian yells.

Destroy who?

I gasp a breath, swiveling my body to look at the fight unfolding. I expect to see Mikail and the angelic army, but they are not here. There are demons lined up and waiting for someone’s command.

And then I see Vincent. Kase stands on top of him, impaling him with his claws. Vincent can’t order the demons to attack because Dante spit venom in his face, melting his lips together. This fucker was supposed to be in the fire pits. But I guess it’s not enough anymore. The fire now cascades from the ground, eating away everything in its path, destroying the mortal world.

“Stop!” I yell, managing to use Elias to push to my feet. He takes my hand, sprawling out his wings beside me, and we stand together now completely focused on the bastard demon that should’ve stayed away. “Restrain him for us. You guys are not getting the satisfaction of destroying him. We are.”

I drag Elias closer, and Vincent writhes and bucks, trying to escape Kase’s restraint. But he can’t. He is nothing but a bad soul. He might have been promoted as a demon long ago, but I’m taking that away from him. He will be the source of our power now. I will annihilate him.

Gathering angel power in one of my palms, I grow it bigger and bigger, mirroring Elias as he gathers his own. And then Lucian, Dante, and Kase join in, summoning their own power. I don’t get upset that they feel that they must help even despite me demanding to serve justice. It is supposed to be this way. Us together.

I turn to look over my shoulder. “I need all of you. We’re going to fucking show him what it means to betray not only the kings of Hell and their queen but also all of humanity.”

The others join our sides, and we circle Vincent and blast him with power, turning him into complete energy that we all absorb as one. Our powers now combine with our bond. My whole body zings with excitement, and I know what must be done. This is how we end the angelic army. At least, those who refuse to stand down. Because I don’t want to destroy everything pure and light in this world. I don’t want to condemn everything dark either. I just want fucking balance. I want humanity to be able to live and learn and grow and better the universe as a whole. It is my duty to see it through.

I heave a couple of deep breaths, the energy sending static electricity zapping across my body. “We need to find where Heaven has collapsed. I know that is where we will find Mikail and the angelic army. He’s going to be hiding. He knows he’s lost.”

Kase purrs under his breath, circling me and sticking his big head between my legs to lift me off the ground and onto his back. I hug him with my entire body, letting him launch forward, where we see a beam of bright light radiating through the air.

“The only way this is going to end is if we take his essence as well. We need the power to stop this!” I dig my fingers into Kase’s back, snuggling close yet yelling out loud enough that I know the other devils can hear me.

But we don’t have to look hard.

A giant entity of pure, Heaven-bound souls grows in a tidal wave, not even a block away. Mikail and at least a few hundred angels stand before us, looking as if they’re prepared to go down as long as the universe falls with them.

I can’t let that happen.

We can’t let that happen.

“Surrender and we will not destroy you.” Cassius flies ahead with Lucian, acting as a barrier between me and the angels.

Mikail ignores his words and expands his wings. Thrusting his arms out, he shoots angelic light at them both. The force of so many angels acting at once sends them skidding across the broken pavement.

The bright light envelops them, and I scream out when it fades with nothing left behind. I don’t know where they went. Usually, they would’ve gone back to their kingdoms. But now? Fuck.

“Keep going! They’ll be back!” Dante shouts, using his wings to fly forward faster than Kase can run in his devil form. “They are going to fracture the entire universe if we don’t stop them.”

I knew I was right. This is what the angels want. With their lack of hope comes their desire to just destroy everything. They will go down with the universe instead of realizing that they have gone so off path even the Higher Power has turned its back on them. That’s why I’m here.

“Hit them from the left, Andre. Kase, keep moving forward. They want Raven the most. She needs to be our bait.” Zade gallops up beside Kase, his equestrian-like devil form rippling with muscles and fire as if he is supercharged in this moment. And he is. I can feel it as if his power is my own. He has never felt as exhilarated as he does now, knowing exactly what needs to be done. He is fighting for humanity like it was intended.

“Like Hell—” Kase slows, gathering his ruby power in his clawed paw. He stands up on his hind legs, forcing me to squeeze his body with my thighs. He walks forward while he chucks his power. It’s rare that I see him on his hind legs like this, and damn. He’s so incredibly sexy all protective over me.

If only he wasn’t about to get pissed off enough that he might try to unleash his wrath on me next. Because Zade is right. The angelic army wants me. They want the twins. If I can distract them even for a couple of minutes, the other devils can attack at full force.

I climb up higher to Kase’s head and kiss him below his ear, stroking my hands around two of his horns in the process. “I’m so sorry. You can punish me later.”

He doesn’t get a chance to try to grab me with his tail before I launch into the air above him and out of his reach. He yells out for Dante to grab me, but I blast Dante with enough heavenly light to get him to go where Zade instructed.

“Give them everything you got!” I shout, gathering my power in my palms.

And then something happens in my hands. Fire erupts within the brilliant light, and I stare in shock. I had no idea I could still summon Hell power, but it’s as if it blends with my heavenly light, creating the most beautiful white, blue, and orange orb of energy. And it’s all mine. I can feel it inside me that I’m not channeling it from the devils. I’m channeling it from the plane the twins created for me. The plane I know now is intended to be Purgatory.
