She’s killed people. She’s no different than me. Something about her resonates within my soul. I don’t feel she is my soulmate or anything like that, but I can imagine myself striving to be like her. Strong, beautiful, powerful. Everything that I want to be on this island now that I can’t leave.
“What? You’re not gonna say anything, Eliana? You must think I’m some kind of monster.” She stares at the side of my face, waiting for me to glance at her. “You probably think we’re all monsters.”
I swallow and lick my lips. I don’t want to, but I force myself to meet her gaze. “I’m a monster too.” I don’t know why I say it. All I know is that Sloan needs to know that I’m not some weak, docile she-wolf. I’m just as much a beast as she is. “I’ve killed over a dozen people in the last couple weeks.”
“Hmm. Looks like Kai was dishonest. But you sure act the part of an omega. What are you planning?” Sloan steps closer to me and grabs my arm, tightening her fingers. “Don’t make me beat it out of you. If you’re here to destroy my pack—”
“I just want to survive.” Anger rushes through me, and I yank my arm away, scowling. “I want to return to my pack. I have already bowed as an omega to another alpha before the asshole kidnapped me.”
A whisper of a smile crosses Sloan’s lips. “Interesting.”
I don’t get a chance to say more because a howl calls through the air, drawing our attention away from each other and to the hazy light portal before us.
Snatching my arm again, Sloan drags me along with her. It takes me a couple feet to find my balance, and I stride beside her, keeping my head up and my shoulders back, mirroring her posture. I want Sid to see who I truly am. I am not his omega. I’ll be my own pack leader.
“Whatever you do, do as you’re told. Sid does not give second chances. If you want to make it out of here alive, you will be the omega he expects you to be. I can see the strength in your very being and you need to watch it.” Sloan whispers the words, nudging me ahead of her.
I try to slow down to stay by her side, but she transforms into her wolf-self and nips at the backs of my legs, keeping me moving forward. My nerves get the best of me, and I groan under my breath. I don’t want to be here. I don’t want to walk through this mysterious hazy mist into the Sea Glimmer territory. I just want to return to the Sunset Pointe pack. And after that? I want to find the others and escape this island as we had planned. Shadow Moon can’t be it for us.
Cool air engulfs me, dampening my skin with salty sea mist. The haze clears from my vision, and I find myself standing on a rainbow pebble beach. No, not pebbles. Sea glass. An endless array of smooth, colorful clear rocks goes on for what seems like miles. The water in Sea Glimmer is different than what I’ve seen. It’s more blue than turquoise, but just as crystal clear. The sea glass scatters the shoreline until I can no longer see it in the ocean.
“Welcome to Sea Glimmer. You’ll never see a territory as beautiful as ours.” Sid steps beside me, draping his arm around my shoulders and pulling me in close. “Our den is just down the beach. I’ll take you there. We need to celebrate our futures. I cannot wait until the full moon to have my chance to get acquainted with you on every level.”
Oh, no.
Fuck no.
“Will you please show me the lands first?” I ask, swiveling on the balls of my feet. My heart picks up speed as dread seeps through me at his implication. He wants to have sex already, not even giving me a chance to process all of this bullshit.
Swinging his arm, Sid slaps me across the face hard enough to send my head jerking.
I gasp and clutch my cheek, the sting of his palm making my eyes water. I realize my mistake immediately. I spoke freely. He said I wasn’t allowed to do that unless we were alone. Right now, everyone watches us.
“We’ll get acquainted with each other first,” Sid repeats, pulling me even closer, biting me with his nails. “Do you understand?”
My mouth trembles. “Y-yes.”
He growls.
“Yes, Daddy Sid.” Even saying the words churns my stomach. If I had anything to eat, I would probably throw up now. This whole situation digs deeply inside me. How did I ever end up in this position? What do I do? I’m not one to just lie there as some sick bastard thinks he can dominate me, fuck me, and treat me as if I am his property. But if I don’t, he will hurt me. Maybe even worse.
I need to do whatever it takes to survive.
I know it deep in my heart. I’ll get through this. I have been through it before, and I’m sure this isn’t the last time either. This is my fucking life. My fucking curse. I will manage.
“Good girl.” Sid snatches me up, tossing me over his shoulder. I wish I had underwear on, because I’m pretty sure his pack stares at my body as if I’m a treat to look at.
Maybe I am.
It doesn’t make me any less angry. It makes me want to sink my teeth into this fucker’s shoulder and bite, hoping to catch an artery so he bleeds out.
I don’t think I could maul him in this form. As for my she-wolf? I don’t even know how to transform. It was automatic last time. I don’t know if anyone will teach me yet either.
“Our den is the first one closest to the water. The others share one deeper in the forest. Be thankful you get such luxury being my mate. You’ll wake up to the sound of the clear ocean, blue skies, and my sexy body. I know you’ll appreciate it when you have the chance to familiarize yourself with every inch of me.” Is he for real? Unfortunately, yes. He’s a cocky bastard. Entitled. He seems like the type to tell me I enjoy something when I don’t.
I shudder at the thought, but I don’t get a chance to think about it long because Sid drops me onto a blanket within a sturdy bungalow. It’s not exactly a den, and I’m thankful for it. I was expecting to get sand in my ass or something.
“You must earn your right to sleep in the bed beside me. But you can do so fairly quickly. Show me exactly what you will do for the chance.” My mind whirls with his words. I don’t even have a chance to process the quaint room we’re in. He moved so fast that I never even got to see the outside of the place. It’s like he can’t wait another second to try to dominate me and fuck my brains out.
