“No!” I wield my sword, tensing at the fire brewing around the room. Damien joins my side.

He senses what I do.

The second the hunter’s life ends, her soul will open the plane to Hell. A powerful demon, more so than anyone I’ve encountered, will break free. It will come for me.

“Getoutofhere, you two,” Riella mutters, glancing at me with her stunning violet eyes, sparkling with flickering flames. “Let us handle this.”

The demon continues to chant, his voice booming with his summoning. The familiar rancid scent of the envy plane assaults my senses, dragging me back to a memory of Hell and the fucker who runs the breeding ground for demons that can use and devour the jealousy some humans can’t fight against.

“Take this sacrifice and rise.” Slitting the female hunter’s throat completely, the demon drops her body. Blood spills and ignites, crawling across each body on the floor and warming the room with hellfire.

“Go!” Riella shouts, shifting her broken wings. “Hell’s opening!” She senses the darkness as I do.

Neither Storm nor River moves. Storm’s eyes flick back and forth, his mind elsewhere. One silent look from River proves his brother sees something in a vision.

But I can’t focus on him for long.

A form grows within the flames, and a figure emerges. I expect for Lucifer himself to rise from Hell, but a fucking familiar bastard in an unfamiliar skinsuit roars. I’d recognize Dagan’s presence from anywhere. The Prince of Envy nearly split my soul into pieces as he fought with the head of Lust for my soul. Jealously and desire were my downfall on Earth, and I succumbed to both while...I can’t think about it. All that matters is that Dagan lost once, and he will lose again. I’m stronger than ever and in complete control of my own demonic hunger.

His six-foot six-inch frame towers over all of us, and he whips his attention to Riella. Fire flickers in his obsidian eyes a moment before he swings his fist, punching the demon who summoned him into the fissure to Hell. It seals up, swallowing the flames but leaving the carnage behind.

“Dagan, you fucking bastard,” I murmur under my breath, his body rippling as if bugs crawl under his skin. “She’s mine.” I can’t help trying to claim Riella. I despise how he looks at her as if he’ll do more than carry to her Hell.

“Bow to your prince!” A fiery cord lashes from Dagan’s body, knocking me off my feet. I groan and fight against his demonic tentacle-like appendage, but he’s too powerful, tapping into the power of his kingdom.

Whipping his attention to Riella, Dagan cocks his head, drinking in the sight of her. “My future queen.”

Queen? Oh, fucking no. A dozen thoughts crash through my mind as I try to process his words. He knows of Riella. He thinks he can claim her for his kingdom, and there is only one way he could even know about her. She was set up. I knew something was wrong the moment I saw her crash through the roof and right into my life like an avenging angel torn between saving me and annihilating me.

“Come bow to your king.”

I expect Riella to attack. I expect her to summon fire and kick ass. To swing her heavenly sword and send him to Hell.

She remains frozen in shock, her wings sagging.

And then she steps forward and bows.

Storm intakes a breath, clenching his knife. As if River can read his mind, he uses his angel-blessed blade and follows his lead, drawing invisible protective marks through the air. They shout an incantation in unison, sending a cage of fire around the bastard prince, trapping him.

I unleash my beast form, allowing my incubi power to break free. I can smell the lust pouring from Riella as Dagan uses his charm and power, trying to lure her closer. Sweat drips across my forehead, the room turning hellish with heat. I’m afraid if we don’t do something soon, we’ll all end up in Hell.

“Keep him caged! I’ll kill him!” Storm shouts, motioning to me. “Damien, back me up. Riella—”

Riella unfolds her wings, stretching them across the room, blocking us from the demon prince. “Stop. I realize now what I’m meant to do. I know why I’m here.” Her monotonous tone strikes me in the chest. Something’s wrong.

“Riella, angel. Don’t go any closer. Take my hand. Please. You’re being entranced.” I shift closer, extending my clawed hand to Riella, hoping that my Hell power is enough to break through to her. Dagan isn’t the only one with charm. “Please.”

“Listen to Damien, Riella.” If I didn’t know any better, I’d believe River might actually see that I’m on his side instead of seeing me as the lesser threat.

Riella doesn’t respond to either of us, taking another step closer.

Storm reaches out and grabs onto one of her wings, trying to yank her back. He shouts and recoils, his hand burning as if he stuck it into a white-hot flame. I rush to Riella, my heart pounding in my ears. The room rumbles as a boom rattles me to my core. River tackles Storm and shields him with his body, clutching his hand until light radiates from his palms. He gasps, his burns vanishing.
