Drawing my sword, I run after them. I pray that I can sneak up on him and draw him to the brick wall. I look up at the end of the parking lot and to the chain-link fence. The old broken streetlights flicker. Hopefully, that will let me get somewhat closer to them before he notices. I skulk over to them, keeping to the shadows and away from the lampposts. The demon somehow spots me, and he grabs Riella tighter. She gets the closeness she needs to attack and stomps down on his foot with all of her fallen angel power behind it. She breaks her arm free, summoning a ball of hellfire. She shoots it at the demon, knocking him to the ground in pain. Her power blazes, stronger than I’ve seen it, burning white on the outside of the flame. Like angelic light. Drawing her sword, she angles it at the demon. I’m not sure why her hellfire affects him more than any other demon’s would, but it does. I can only assume it’s because of her angelic side.

“Riella, wait! You can’t kill him. We need him alive. He’s a lead to Dagan. He’ll be able to tell us where he is.” River comes around the building with Damien and rushes her, only skidding to stop when she jerks her attention up, Hell burning in her eyes.

“He’s right, angel. It’ll be more fun this way.” Damien smirks, his twisted comment getting Riella to step back.

Riella glances down at the demon with more malice than I’ve ever seen in her eyes. “You’re lucky we need you alive, or I’d let these three finish you off.” She turns to look at me.

The demon tests his luck, using her distraction to try to get up. Fucking idiot.

River and Damien go after him, and the next thing I know, Damien pins him to the brick wall outside of the bar. River strides over to him and gives Damien a cocky grin of satisfaction.

Damien nods and gives River the go-ahead. “So my evil Brooky here isn’t as lenient as I am. He’ll be taking over this interrogation.”

River stands in front of the demon, an evil glint in his eyes. He enjoys this part a little too much, if you ask me. “You have two choices. Option one, you can either help us and die quickly. Or option two, we tear you limb from limb until you’re screaming for Hell to take you back. Which at that point, you’ll still give us the information. The choice is really up to you. Do you want to go quickly or excruciatingly, painfully slow?”

Riella studies the demon with my brother and the incubus. “Wow. I never knew your brother had that in him.”

I chuckle. “Really? You can’t imagine him torturing a demon?” I cross my arms over my chest.

Riella cocks her head to the side. “That does seem like his twisted brand of pleasure, but not you.”

Grinning, I nudge her shoulder with mine. “Ah, my pretty little hellion. You have no idea what I’m capable of.” I wink at her before striding over to meet my brother and the demon.

Damien restrains the demon in place while my brother glowers at him.

River asks, “What’s it gonna be, asshole?”

Damien looks back at the demon and grins. “The latter. I mean, after all, this demon got a hold of our girl. We can’t have him thinking we give mercy.”

The demon struggles to get free but there’s no way he can escape the incubus. “Please, please, please. I just wanted to get ahead in Hell. I knew that if I offered her up to Prince Dagan, I’d be able to get somewhere and get out of the ranks where I’m at. You don’t understand what it’s like down there.”

Damien tilts his head and raises an eyebrow. “You really think I don’t know what it’s like down there? I may not have been back in a while, but I sure as hell know that the place never changes. So try again.”

I walk over and punch the demon in the gut. “You guys are taking too long.” I aim my dagger at the grotesque beast. “Now you. My brother asked you a question. Answer him. Make this easy on yourself and tell us what we need to know.”

The demon, still afraid, tries to stand a little taller and act like he’s not scared shitless. “Fuck you. I’m not helping you. You want to find out what’s going on. That’s up to you all to learn on your own. All I know is I’ll be rewarded for helping Prince Dagan get his queen.” Turning to Riella, he gives her a once-over. A growl escapes both mine and Damien’s throats. “Your Highness, it would be so much easier if you just came along,” he says to Riella. “You’re going to end up in Hell anyway as Dagan’s queen. No one denies his orders or his requests. You’ll be treated like a queen. Why wouldn’t you want that?”

Damien flicks his gaze to my brother, tightening his mouth. “That’s that, I guess. We’re going to have to do this the fun way. Do you want to do it or should I?”

River smiles maniacally as he pulls out his angelic blessed dagger. “Me. I’ve been looking forward to something like this for a long time.” He nods toward Damien. “At least ever since I’ve been around your ass. I need to get some of this aggression out, so I’ll be glad to take this round.” He turns back to the demon with a malicious grin and a sparkle in his eyes. River holds up his blade as he grips the demon’s hand tightly, bringing it flat against the brick wall. “So, it looks like it’s time to get this party started. Now, where were we?”

I almost feel sorry for this demon. Almost. The blade glows white the closer my brother gets to the demon. Knowing what he’s about to do, I take a step back and look at Riella standing beside me. “If I were you, I’d move back. Things are about to get messy.”

Riella walks over to where I stand and takes my hand in hers.

Damien looks back at me. “Great. Well, somebody has to hold him here, so I guess I’m going to get messy.”

“You’ll enjoy every second of it too,” River quips.

Riella sighs and moves closer to me, keeping her eyes focused on the demon as he roars in agony. “I should’ve been able to handle that better. He caught me off guard. Well, the hunter did in a way. Then before I knew what was happening, he had a hold of my hair.” She breaks her gaze from the smoldering beast and studies the dark parking lot like she’s embarrassed she got caught.

“It could’ve happened to anyone. Hell, it’s happened to us more than once. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.” I wrap my arm around her shoulders.

I focus my attention on my brother as he jerks his blade over the demon’s hand, and something plops right into a puddle. A puddle of what? I can’t say. It hasn’t rained in over a week, so more than likely it’s some kind of alcohol or piss. Black blood gushes from where the demon’s pinky used to be attached. I can’t help but smile. Am I a sick bastard? Fuck yeah. But he tried to take something of mine, and for that, he will pay. Just after we get what we need out of him. My brother is very good at this. I hate to give him props on it, but I have to.

River watches as the demon looks down at his severed finger. “Now, I can do this nine more times or you can talk.”

The demon scowls at all of us and shakes his head. “No. I’m not doing this. I’m not talking, so do what you’re gonna do. You’re not getting anything out of me. I’m more afraid of him than I am of you.”
