I wandered around by the tents, listening for the kids. There was some rustling from inside that quieted after a few moments.
Several minutes later, Emery came out, picking her way in the dark with her phone’s light. I flipped my flashlight on so she could see better.
“Thank you,” she said when she reached me.
I shut the light off and set it by the entrance to my tent. Then I pulled her into my arms, smiling when she came without resistance. “I have it on good authority that they’ll be inside playing cards for a while.”
Her hair tickled me as she nodded. “Oh?”
I whispered in her ear. “You wanna come to my tent for a few minutes of quiet making out?”
Her hot breath caressed my ear as she said, “I can do a whole lot really fast and really quietly.”
The control I’d been reining in all night took a nosedive. “You’ll have to prove it, Em.”
