Logan’s tongue darted out to wet his bottom lip. We were about to kiss when our food arrived.

“Just as well,” Logan said.

I laughed and reached for one of the lamb koftas. Holding the stick in one hand, I bit into the seasoned meat as daintily as I could while Logan dug a tortilla chip into the guacamole dip.

“Mm. This is divine,” I said, pointing to the kofta.

“So is this guac,” Logan said.

We each tried the other snack next.

“I concur,” I said once I’d swallowed my mouthful.

We washed the food down with our drinks.

“So, funny story. It seems Lily and Zoey have a little something going on with Joe from the club.”

“Who?” Logan asked.

I watched him closely as I replied, “You know, the bouncer guy?”

“No.” Logan shook his head. He shifted in his seat. “So, you’re saying your roommates have a threesome thing going on with this guy?”

“From what I could tell from last weekend, I think so. They’ve been out with him two more times this week. Lily went out on a work night . . . shenevergoes out on a work night.” I teased the rim of my wine glass with my finger. “I’m a little worried about the whole thing. I’m not grossed out by it or anything, but Zoey and Lily are my roommates, so I worry about them getting jealous of each other and potentially falling out over this guy who, by the way, is shipping off to join the Navy in San Diego soon.”

Logan toyed with his own drink. “You never know, they might make it work. Stranger things have happened.”

“I’m being a worry-wart, aren’t I?” I asked.

“You’re looking out for your friends’ best interests. There’s nothing wrong with that. That’s who you are. I think it’s admirable.” Logan rested his beer on his knee. “So, that animal clinic you work at looks like a nice place.”

I nodded. “I think that’s part of what’s helped me settle into Brooklyn so well. I have an encouraging boss and great co-workers around me at work.”

“Things have fallen into place for you.”

“It’s nice, but temporary,” I said.

“Of course. I love how motivated you are in your career. I wonder where you’ll end up with it.”

I lowered my face and peered at him through my eyelashes. “I wonder where we’ll end up.”

I felt Logan’s hand brush over my hair before it settled on my cheek. He tilted my face up and made me look at him. “One way or another, we’ll end up together.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “Are you sure about that?”

“Positive.” His answer was confident and unwavering.

I sighed. “I’m going to have to get used to not knowing everything, aren’t I?”

Logan sighed. “Yeah.”

Tears welled in my eyes.

“You’re never alone, Aria,” Logan said as he set his beer down and clasped my hand tight.

I pressed a kiss to his lips, and he didn’t hesitate in opening to me. He darted his tongue into my mouth, teasing mine and leaving me wanting more. “Take me somewhere private,” I whispered.

Logan threw back the rest of his drink. With my hand in his, he pulled me up and led me from the bar. “You’re going to love the room I booked.”
