“Oops. Blessed be.”

Owain blew out his candle, and I did the same.

He took the scarf off his head and threw it onto a couch, then took my hands. “Thank you so much for humoring me. You must think I’m weird.”

“Not at all.” I thought he was a little bit weird, but he didn’t need to know that. “Whatever you need to perform well, I’m all for it. I know you will have a great performance. You’reOh!”

Oh!giggled. “Thanks.”

“You good?”

“Yep.”

“Good. Now get on out there and wow the audience.” I pumped the air with my fists.

Owain gave me a lazy salute and headed out of his dressing room.

“How’s the pop star doing?”

I glanced across the hallway to find Jeremy leaning against the wall beside the door labeledMad Lurchers.“Better now.”

Jeremy leaned slightly to his right and watchedOh!flouncing around his room. “Bit of a ponce, isn’t he?”

“Hey, stop it. He’s a sweet guy. He’s just…” I trailed off as I listened to him hollering like a banshee.

“A ponce.”

“Okay, a ponce.” I rolled my eyes, then changed the subject. “What about your guys? Are they ready for their big gig?”

“Certainly are. They’re doing each other’s makeup right now.”

I nearly choked. “What, now?”

Jeremy laughed. “Your face, love. They’re punk rockers. They have to look the part. Cruz has disappeared. Can you try to track him down for me? He needs to get his glam on as well.”

“All right. I’ve got to get back out to the main room anyhow.” I drew in a deep breath and released it after a moment. “I’ll see you soon.”

Jeremy leaned forward and dropped a kiss onto my lips. “You’ll do great, sugar. Relax, hmm?”

“Not until this is over.” I tugged on his dinner jacket. “I love you.”

He stroked my cheeks with the backs of his fingers. “You know I love you. Oh, by the way, you look drop-dead gorgeous in that dress.”

Turning on my heel, I hid my dorky smile behind my hand before recovering myself as I headed out of the backstage area. I collected a clipboard with a checklist of things attached to it.

When I reached the main floor, I was happy to see Louisa and her dashing firefighter boyfriend, Eric, arriving. He looked handsome in a perfectly tailored tux, and Louisa was rocking the dress I’d helped her purchase when we’d visited Harrods earlier in the day.Eric was the most philanthropic of Lou’s Rawlins men, and so I was glad he’d opted to come along with Lou to support my event.

“There will absolutely be a fashion show.” Lou’s eyes lit up at the sight of the runway.

With a huge grin, I marched over to her. “Hell yeah, there is, and guess who’s in charge of it? Me… with the help of some other people. Have you seen Augustus?”

“Who?” Eric asked as we briefly hugged.

“My big star model.” I threw my hands up, waving the clipboard around. “He was supposed to be here before the party began. He’s also supposed to be my wingman to try to help raise funds for the hospital. I mean, everyone in the country loves him, so they’ll never say no to donating if he’s the poster child for it. He’sliterallythe poster child for it.”

I picked up a donation tin from a table and ignored the pang I felt in the pit of my stomach. “Augustus Louis Charles Huntington the Third, Viscount of Yorkshire. He’s the arrogant, self-entitled jackass who I’ve been forced to work with since coming to this otherwise fantastic city. He also happens to be the face of our latest campaign. If he’s not here ASAP, I’m going to kill him. That is if my boss doesn’t killmefirst.”

“Oh, he’s here.” Lou jabbed her thumb in the direction of the entryway. “He was arriving when we came in.”
