I made sure I was there to congratulate the guys as they passed me.

“Woo-hoo, great performance, lads,” Cruz shouted.

“They absolutely loved you,” I announced as I clapped my hands.

“Are you kidding? All of those big-name celebrities lovedus?” Henry asked.

“Yes.” My laugh was one of delight. “Mad Lurchersgot noticed tonight. Trust me.”

“It’s all thanks to you, strawberry.”

I blushed.

“It’s true. You chose to put us in the spotlight. Now we wait and see if it was all worth it,” Louis said.

Will froze. “Fucking hell, you just got praise from Louis. That’s some special kind of privilege right there, girl. He’s a fucker.”

“Shut your mouth,” Louis grumbled.

“It’s true, and you know it, mate.” Henry scratched at his head and turned toward the dressing room. “I’ve got to go and get this fucking thing off.”

“Well done, sugar.” Jeremy pressed a kiss to my forehead and followed behind the band.

Cruz didn’t follow his bandmates. Instead, he took my hand and dragged me behind a curtain, where he pushed me up against a wall where no one could see us and drew me into a deep, mind-melting kiss. He led me in a dance with our mouths, and when I draped my arms over his shoulders, he pressed closer to me. Oh, yes, I was falling for another Huntington, and I was more than willing for him to catch me. My breath was non-existent by the end of the kiss, but I didn’t care.

“I’m desperate to show you how thankful I am for you, strawberry. Because words are insufficient.”

I leaned into his touch when he ran his fingers through my hair. “I’m glad I could help you get some exposure.”

He feathered his lips across mine and asked, “When can I thank you?”

I gazed up at him almost drunkenly. “Come to my place later. I’m celebrating with Riva and Jeremy.”

Cruz smirked. “It sounds like a party.” His tongue tangled with mine a little longer before he pulled away. “See you soon.”

I didn’t bother fighting my giddy smile, and my stomach flipped when he returned it. My eyes roamed over his body and settled on his ass as he walked away from me.

Buoyed by the happiness bubbling away inside me, I went in search of Augustus. I couldn’t let uncertainty stay between us and allow it to eat away at what I hoped we were building. When it came down to it, I thought Augustus wanted me but was afraid of what being in a relationship meant, and that maybe he felt being with me would mean he would have to change his way of life. I didn’t want to change him. I only wanted him to be more open with me and let me love him the way he deserved to be loved.

I spotted him at the end of one of the hallways. “Hey, Aug, can we talk?” The question died on my lips when I saw the scene in front of me.

Linda broke her kiss off with him, and the pair turned to watch as my heart shattered into pieces.

CHAPTERTHIRTY-ONE

“What the fuck is happening here?” My voice echoed through the hallway. I didn’t care who heard me. I didn’t even care if Sir Elton John heard me shouting from up in the club. “Why the hell are you two doingthat?”

“I like Augustus, Sienna. Didn’t you know?” Linda clung to my boyfriend like she owned him. “I figured if you can’t make up your mind about him, I’d finally take my shot.”

My conversation with Riva came flooding back to me. The younger woman was right. Linda was making a play for Augustus all along. “I can’t make my mind up about him? Are you kidding? My mind was made up a long time ago, bitch.”

Linda’s eyes flashed with anger. “Is that any way to talk to your boss?”

Augustus shoved her away. “Nothing is happening here. This was completely unexpected.”

“Nothing is happening. Are you kidding?” I glared at Linda. “Riva warned me about you, dammit. She knew you wanted Augustus. I was too caught up in my guilt and trying my hardest to be an amazing employee… which I am, by the way… to even notice why I was being unfairly treated.” I turned my tearful gaze to Augustus with a sad shake of my head. “I was warned about you, too, Augustus. I knew you were aplayboy from the get-go. I knew I was taking a risk getting involved with you. You’re back and forth, hot and cold, always toying with my emotions. You give me hope that we might finally be together, then you rip it out from under me. It’s not fair.”

“Sienna, please, if you’ll let me—”
