Page 126 of Desiring Them

“Yes, I actually gave that up a few years back. Now I’m managing your eldest son’s band. Good to see you haven’t lost your touch.” Jeremy’s sarcasm was lost on the older man, but I could sense the judgment in Jeremy’s tone.

“Ah, why, thank you. I do try.”

Ruben held up his hands. “I’ll see you all later. Sorry about the trouble.”

As he turned on his heel, Augustus was suddenly there and was taking Ruben’s hand. “Never fear,Father. He’smyplus one. Sorry about the confusion.” Augustus tossed his invitation at the doorman and fussed over Ruben. “Sorry I’m late, dear. I had dreadful trouble with my bow tie. You know how I am.”

Earl Huntington looked taken aback. “Ahh, son, what’s this all about then?”

“As I said, Ruben’s my plus one. I apologize for you having to meet like this, both of you. Father, Ruben… Ruben, my father, Harold. Now, shall we hit the hors d’oeuvre table?”

“Sounds like a plan,” Ruben answered, relief spreading across his face.

Augustus flashed a quick smirk at me, and I bit back a grin. He led Ruben away into the crowd.

Earl Huntington hung then shook his head. “I don’t know what I’m going to do with either of you, Christian.”

“My name’s Cruz,” Cruz said pointedly

The earl released a long sigh. “No, it’s Christian. That is the name you were born with. I’m not getting into it with you tonight. Go and say hello to your mother, will you?” Earl Huntington moved off to chat with some other older men.

“Well, that was interesting.” Riva giggled.

Jeremy took three champagne flutes from a passing server and handed one to Riva and one to me. “Augustus to the rescue. It’s out of character. He must love you, Sienna.”

“Her and Ruben, from what I can tell.” Riva lifted the glass to her lips.

I laughed at the naughty glint in her eyes.

“If only he could get it together and figure that out.” Cruz lowered his mouth to my ear. “Come and meet my mother?”

“I’d love to.”

I was still buzzing from our bath together. The sex had done nothing to quench our appetite for each other, which meant I had a lot of pent-up desires right now. So, when he took my hand, I couldn’t help the small shiver that ran down my spine.

He led me to a stunning older woman who was standing in the middle of the room.

Where I could see the similarities between Augustus to his father, it turned out that Cruz very much took after his mother in the looks department. She was a graceful, tall woman with a fair complexion, sharp facial features, and raven hair.

She saw Cruz, and the smile that lit up her face was incredible. This was the kind of woman who could make entire rooms stop and stare at her. Her full-length emerald green gown hugged her in certain places but was accompanied by a full skirt. “Hello, darling, how wonderful you could make it.”

Despite his gripes about her, Cruz turned into a little boy as his mom embraced him and kissed his cheeks and nose. “Hello, Mummy. You look stunning, as always. How are you?”

“I’m wonderful, my darling boy. You look handsome indeed tonight. Surely, you’re not making the effort for your father?” She rested her hand on his upper arm.

“Definitely not,” Cruz huffed out. Then he placed his hand on the small of my back. “I’m doing it for Sienna. Sienna, this is my mother, Lady Elenore Huntington, Countess of Yorkshire. Mummy, Sienna is my girlfriend.”

“Hi.” I attempted to give her a small curtsey.

“Oh, it’s wonderful to meet you, Sienna.” Lady Huntington asked, “How long have you been together?”

“Not long at all, actually. But our feelings for each other are strong,” I answered.

“I certainly hope we’re in it for the long haul.” Cruz gazed at me.

“You know we are.” I wanted to kiss him so badly but didn’t want to disrespect his mom.

Lady Huntington squeezed my hand. “We must get to know one another. May I borrow her for a bit, Cruz?”
