We were both surprised to find Riva awake.

“Sorry, hun, did I wake you up?” I asked.

“No. I’ve been lightly dozing for the last few minutes.” She peered up at us with tired eyes.

“How are you feeling, Reeve?” Jeremy asked.

“Better, thanks. Can we move to Yorkshire? I miss my brothers and sister and my parents so much.”

“We’ll have to chat with the others,” Jeremy advised.

“What about your new position at Estate Styles, Riva?” I asked.

Riva frowned at me. “How did you hear about that?”

“I overheard your conversation with Linda at the gala. I’m sorry I didn’t congratulate you. I guess I was jealous.” I lowered my gaze.

“What on earth do you have to be jealous of?” she declared.

I felt so ashamed of myself. “I suppose I felt overlooked. I put in as much work as everyone else, and it didn’t make a difference to Linda. I’m sorry, baby, it was stupid of me. I guess now’s the time to tell you I’ve decided to quit Estate Styles, which is why I’m more than happy to work for you and the band, Jeremy.”

“Don’t let Linda drive you out,” Riva begged.

“I’m not.” I rolled my eyes at myself. “Maybe I am, a little. But I’m tired of the paparazzi and being blamed for their actions. I want to be happy and at peace. You guys do that for me.” I clung to Riva’s hand. “Just because I’ve decided to quit my position at Estate Styles doesn’t mean I want you to, Riva. You love working with the models. You should stay.”

“I do love it.” She smiled, but I could tell she was still exhausted. “I do love it, but only if you’re okay about it.”

“Of course, I am.”

“Okay, so no Yorkshire.” Riva shrugged. “That’s all right, as long as I’m with you two.”

“We’ll make sure to visit your family regularly,” I promised her.

Riva was about to say something, but she slapped her hand over her mouth instead and made a dash for the en suite.

“Oh, no,” I said with a sigh.

The clock on the wall ticked way too loudly in the doctor’s office’s quiet waiting room as I waited impatiently for Riva. Since she’d continued to be sick, we thought it best for her to get seen.“I wonder what’s taking so long. I thought it was only supposed to be a fifteen-minute appointment?”

Jeremy watched me pace back and forth in front of him. “It’s only been five.”

“What? It has not.”

He nodded toward the annoying clock. When I followed his line of sight, I was embarrassed to find out he was right.

“Sit down and relax, babe. You stressing isn’t helping the situation.” Jeremy patted the chair beside him.

“I’m worried about her.”

“So am I. We’ll have answers soon enough. Now sit that sexy ass of yours down and stay put.” He put on a tone that simply dared me to argue with him.

I pouted and plopped down beside him. The waiting was torturous.

When Riva finally came out, I jumped up immediately and threw my arms around her. “Is everything okay?”

“Yep.”

I quickly pulled away again with a grimace. “Do you have a bout of gastro or food poisoning or something gross like that?”
