“I hope so.”My mouth dropped at the suggestive tone of his voice.“Waffles sound great.”

I laughed. “You want some?”

“What kind of question is that?” Jeremy scoffed. “Of course, I want some.”

“Come on.” I wasn’t sure why I was inviting a stranger into my apartment, but I wanted to take the risk.

Jeremy took a moment to throw on a long-sleeved T-shirt and followed me across the hallway to my funny little L-shaped apartment.

He paused and glanced around. “Wow! Yours is tiny. I thought mine was small. How d’ya d’you move in this box?”

I shrugged and lifted one hand into the air. “I happen to be tiny.”

It was Jeremy’s turn to laugh. “Fair point.”

His blue-eyes gaze traveled over me, and I realized I needed a distraction before he caught me basking in hisperusal of me. So, I resumed my waffle making as I confessed,“But it is an adjustment, I’ll admit. I’ve gone from my adorable, two-story, three-bedroom Californian condo to a place slightly larger than a bedroom.”

Jeremy indicated the bowl. “D’you need a hand with anything?”

“That’s a nice offer, but you won’t fit.”

Jeremy sat on the end of my bed and watched me. “What do you think of London so far?”

“It’s cold.” Jeremy laughed. “But I’m sort of used to that, I guess. London is big and busy, and I love the old buildings that are still everywhere. My hometown is mostly made up of new builds.”

“A lot of London isn’t as old as it looks. Most buildings were rebuilt after the city was bombed to shit in World War II. Certain places survived, but not as much as you’d think.”

I turned my mouth down at the new fact. “That’s sad to think about.”

“My grandfather was in the Blitz. He defended the skies above the city.”

“A war hero, huh? That’s awesome.” I spooned some batter into the waffle iron. “My grandpa has always been a mountain man. He loves living in the forest, even in the height of winter. He’s a ranger for national parks and only ever comes into town for supplies, and my parents followed his example.” I shook my head slightly. “Anyway, here.” I set Jeremy’s plate with waffles smothered in butter and maple syrup onto the counter, and he stood, once again overwhelming me with his size and sexiness.

“These smell incredible,” he said, and his smile lit his gorgeous blues.

“Lucky you were home to give me some sugar.” I scooped a piece of my waffle into my mouth. When I licked my lips, his gaze followed the trajectory of my tongue.

Jeremy winked. “You’re more than welcome.” He glanced at my laptop when I hit play on the music again and turned it down. “What are you playing there?”

“I’m going through a list of lesser-known London bands and musical artists. I need someone to play at the gala I’m helping to organize.”

“What sort of gala?” Jeremy asked, his curiosity piqued.

“A charity. Estate Styles holds one each year to raise money for a good cause. They also hold a fashion show and host new musicians throughout the night.”

Jeremy turned the laptop slightly and scrolled through the list. “There’s a band missing.”

“There is?” I widened my eyes. “Who?”

“They’re called Mad Lurchers. You should give them a shot.”

I pointed to the video-streaming website I had open. “Are they on here?”

Jeremy’s fingers flew over the keyboard, and he had a video of a live performance by a punk band playing in no time.

They were good.Extremelygood.

“These guys are definitely contenders.” I jotted a note in my notebook. “I can’t wait to track down their management and ask them if they’d be interested.”
