Page 56 of Desiring Them

“So, my house?” Augustus asked, resting his hand on my knee.

“Maybe,” I replied, tapping my chin.

Augustus waited a few moments. “You have something else in mind?”

I angled myself toward him, wishing I could move closer. “I have a guest who can’t wait to meet you. May I invite him over?”

Augustus’ eyes widened. “Him? Who is this ‘him?’ Should I be jealous?”

“No. He’s a surprise visitor.” I was dropping hints and hoping Augustus would take a guess and get it right.

“From where?”

“A place called Wayborough Shores.”

Something akin to realization lit up Aug’s face. “You don’t mean…”

“Finally,” I shouted.

“Your boyfriend?” Aug flicked a hopeful glance my way.

“Yup. I thought I was going to have to spell it out for you.”

“Well then, you’re absolutely correct. We shouldn’t leave him alone in your pathetically small flat.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Give him a call, give him my address, and I’ll inform security about him coming.” Augustus chuckled at his double entendre.

I didn’t bother to react to his stupid joke. Instead, I sent Ruben a text message with an invitation. It didn’t take long for my phone to ping with his response.

Ruben:You don’t have to ask me twice.

I stifled a chuckle. “He’ll meet us there.”

When I began to tremble with excitement and nervousness, I lowered my hand to my lap. I was as eager as Ruben to see if the guys would get along in person.

When we arrived at the house, I couldn’t keep still and felt Augustus’ eyes on me as I paced around the kitchen and living areas.

“Anxious, are you?” Augustus asked as he bit into an apple.

I stopped in my tracks. “Aren’t you?”

“No.”

“What if you and Ruben don’t get along? What if you don’t find each other attractive?”

Augustus snorted. “I highly doubt that will be the case.”

Our conversation was interrupted by my phone pinging with a text announcing Ruben’s arrival.

“I’d better go and let him in.”

“Security will do that,” Augustus assured me.

“Aug,” I sighed. “He’s going to be nervous as fuck. I’ll be right back.”

I climbed the stairs to the entrance foyer and walked across the black, paved driveway. Ruben was being extra nice to the guard, and his nervous laugh echoed around the small front yard.
